Who else is waiting for the Dell 2408WFP?

Dell seem to be taking orders, unless they're gonna pull it like they did on the US site. Now I know I've been putting off buying a 24" monitor until an improvement was made on the 2407WFP-HC, but anyone else waiting impatiently for this one?

    Some other sites taking pre-orders:
    Scan - £488.33
    PcBuyIt - £440.62
    OcUK - £469.99

Re: Who else is waiting for the Dell 2408WFP?

Atleast it seems to have all the ports required to use it as a normal TV as well as a monitor.

Does it now support 1:1 mapping over the digial inputs ?

A remote to switch it on/off and switch between inputs would make it the perfect monitor.

Used to have the 2407 for ages and had everything connected to it - freeview, laptop, PS3, XBox ... Fortunately I have moved on to a plasma and dont need to make do with monitors anymore.

I've been waiting for the 2408 but I can't jusity it over my 2007wfp at the moment. It does everything I need it to and I think £450 would be better spent on a decent TV to run as a 2nd monitor along side my 2007.

Well, I got in touch with pcbuyit today and was told that Dell shipped their monitors on the 22nd and they're expecting them to come in tomorrow. Should hopefully have it on Wednesday!

Re: Who else is waiting for the Dell 2408WFP?

No, but you can run them in a window, eg 1680x1050 with black borders, so you keep your 1:1 pixel ratio. Not totally ideal,. but you lose nothing, and you don't buy this sort of monitor purely for gaming unless you're loaded. It's one for those who want good image quality (eg not a TN panel) while still being fast enough for the human eye not to detect a relatively high response rate (not that companies are ever consistent on that front anyway).

If you want a pure gaming monitor there are better value choices out there. If you want something purely for productivity purposes you can spend a hell of a lot more (like 5x more) for a smaller screen. If you want a great value all rounder, this is where these highish end 24 and 30" screens come in.

And yes, I'm tempted. Can move my 2405FWP to work then. Hate using 2x19" screens.

What is the big difference to the 2407? The DisplayPort?

Better screen, displayport, hdmi, no ghosting problems (fingers crossed!)

I'll be using mine for most things and I'm keeping my 17" Samsung for when things get a bit stressful (i.e. Crysis). I should be able to run most games at native res.

I've also noticed that not many games support widescreen - at least not the retro-ish ones I've been playing recently - but that didn't stop me upgrading from a 2001WFP to a 2407WFP recently.

I've actually gotten used to the Dell stretching the screen!

Why don't/didn't you just tell the drivers to centre the display? :|

Re: Who else is waiting for the Dell 2408WFP?

Hi Guys, I wonder if you can help. I'm interested in this monitor however I would like to know that if I use the HDMI feed from my Shuttle Glamor PC the sound would come out of the Soundbar Speaker.

I already have a 2407WFP and the 3.5mm jack from the speaker plugs into my line out of my PC - the graphics come out with a HDMI connection and I use a converter from HDMI to DVI then a basic DVI lead into into the back of the 2407.

I would however like to place the 2408WFP say 5 metres away from the PC and would like to have a single HDMI cable run rather than having to run a 3.5mm jack lead too!.

Does the HDMI have a 3.5mm out (as the back of the monitor) that will allow this to happen?

    Thanks in advance, R
