Looking for a 24" Screen?
Hi,
Just got my Macpro last week and would like the Apple Cinema Screen 23", but its awfully expensive for what it is.
I see that the Dell 2408 is available now, but wondered what people thought?
I would be grateful if you could recommend me a 24" screen that would suit the occasional game, but mainly video editing and general use. I dont need colour accuracy.
Thanks all
Darren

Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
I'd be tempted by the OCUK value one above but I do love my dell monitors so it would be the the 2408 for me. The extra inputs are great as my monitor doubles as my TV and has my DVD and freeview box running through it. PIP is very handy ;)
Also have my Creative Zen, PS2 and both PC and laptop hooked into it :D good bit of kit lol
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
Dell 2408 thread....
Have a look in here, especially at the last 2-3 pages where people have now started to buy the Dell, it seems that there is an issue with this Dell model also! It is suffering from input lag as a few forums and reviews have picked up on.
I think i'll now be looking else where for a new monitor, which is a big shame :(
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
I have just got the HP w2408h, it is fantastic, it gives a great picture, the only complaint is that there is no DVI input but it does have HDMI and you can et a cinverter.
Highly recommended :rockon2:
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
I have looked at the new 24" Dell monitors but the imput lag problem is stopping me from buying one.
I just don't know what to buy!

I agree and its 10,000:1 wow!
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
I picked up a Hyundai 240WD PVA about a week ago. No problems at all and an awesome picture. Loads of inputs, good stand (important as I'm tall and need it raised). The only con would be the touch sensitive buttons that are impossible to see, but you don't really use them once the screen is set up.
One of the best and most impressive PC items I've ever bought.
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
whats the deal with S-IPS vs PVA in the real world (or is the Hyundai S-PVA?)
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
I got that a few weeks ago and have been very impressed with it so far. Samsung also has excellent customer support, 3 year RTB warrenty.

The cheap one will be the TN panel. Avoid, certainly at that price.
The best value by miles is easily the OcUK value one. It's hard to argue against it (even with it being the OcUK some don't like) unless you need extra inputs or portrait support or something. The BenQ FP241W (or FP241WZ and newly-released but ludicrously expensive FP241VW) and Dell 2407WFPs (2408WFPs just been released and looking good) are the commonly recommended ones if you're happy to spend a bit more.
Might not normally recommend the Dell 2407WFPs as some can be prone to back-light bleeding, but Dell are happy to RMA then for the smallest defect (including bugs in the screen and 'bright' pixels). Initial user reviews of the 2408s are more positive. Should be getting mine from Scan this week.
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
Hmm I don't think you can recommend a screen on Price alone.
But just to throw another spanner in the works, don't forget that there are high gloss screens to be considered as well.
I have 2 of these now and they give a far better picture in my opinion than the standard matt finish screens, that being said you need to have them in an environment that is gloss screen friendly I.E no window or other light source behind them.
They are well worth a look as well. :)

Of course not, no, but if you'd read the threads here, on the OcUK forums and I believe on HDUK too, they're exceptional value. No TN panels here. Well almost none. Apparently DSM (who make them) supplied them with some TN panels, but OcUK are accepting RMAs and replacing them PVA panels - any bought now are supposed to be all PVA with the TN panels removed from stock (they'll presumably pop up in B-grade or as a different model or something).
Re: Looking for a 24" Screen?
Its the imput lag I am worried about with the new Dell. I would never buy from OCUK ever again, everything I have had from them has been faulty. It looks like they send out RMAd stock in the hope it will work for you (some one said they got a "new" OCUK 24" monitor with a letter inside from the previous owner)
