    Interesting 9600GT fact!!

    techPowerUp! Review :: NVIDIA's shady trick to boost the GeForce 9600GT :: Page 1 / 4

    I wonder why Nvidia was so silent about this??!! No wonder the 9600GT perfoms so well!! It would interesting to compare the 8800GT and HD3850/HD3870 if this feature was disabled!!

    From what I understand any board that allows changing the PCI-E speed. Apart from Nvidia, all the usual boards for Overclocking, ASUS, ABIT, GIGABYTE, MSI, have that feature, so it should work on pretty much all of them.

    Re: Interesting 9600GT fact!!

    I wonder how good it is at ensuring that it doesn't OC too far. It's certainly interesting and novel and I actually think it's not a bad thing that nVidia didn't try to attach some fancy names for what's basically a semi-automated overclock.

    I wonder how fast the stock 9600GT would really be when compared to the HD3850 and HD3870 if this feature was disabled??!! No wonder it is close to the 8800GT in many games as I suppose the 8800GT does not have this feature??

    590 & 680 chipset ones but nVidia supposedly removed linkboost as a feature from nF6 a while ago (afaik it was causing problems -a bit like the firewall etc. built into nF4)

    Well, at least seems like the 9600 OC version are kind of useless now.

    Re: Interesting 9600GT fact!!

    So they'll just start locking the GPU clock multiplier for non-OC chips, akin to CPUs, and only allow OCing of the normal parts by increasing PCI-E clock.

    'Extreme' editions will have a non-locked multiplier, allowing OC by both GPU clock and PCI-E clock.
