    Thermalright HR-03 GT?

is the Thermalright HR-03 GT any good?
does anybody have any screenshots of how big it is inside the case?
my brother has an 8400GS atm (my old card) and i'm gonna give him my 8800GT and get a 9800GT when it comes out.. but i'm almost certain that the card will be red hot inside his case..
so it'll most likely need this 'better'? cooler..

here's a pic of the 8400GS in the case.
    on an MSI P31 Neo-F

it's the XFX 8800GT XXX Aplha Dog edition that i have btw.. the overclocked 1, but with the smaller fan, not the new 80mm 1.

    Re: Thermalright HR-03 GT?

    I see no pic

its probably better to improve his case cooling instead... stick a couple of 120mm fans in and the stock cooler should be fine... that way all the component will benefit rather than just the graphics

    Re: Thermalright HR-03 GT?

is the space at the back 120mm or 80mm?
do you have holes for fans at the top/side/front... if you do then get as many as can fit
I like the slow sharkoon fan, but there are loads of good quiet ones

    Re: Thermalright HR-03 GT?

the hole at the back is 80 or 92mm and there's a 120mm and 92mm on the side and a 120mm on the front.

I would suggest you fill in all those fan spaces... make sure that back one blows out side and front blow in... also you won't invalidate the 8800gt warranty by changing the cooler

    Re: Thermalright HR-03 GT?

does it knacker up the warranty when you change the cooler?!
what should i do with the side 1s?

the 120mm on the side is next to the GFX card.. and the 92mm is next to where the CPU is, did have a funnel on.. but raised temps by 3 or 4'C..

I guess it does, imagine how many people cock up their graphics by putting on passive cooling which overheats or watercooling gone wrong or incorrectly fitting custom cooler... but I might be wrong...

    Re: Thermalright HR-03 GT?

On the whole you will invalidate your warranty by removing the cooler, in fact if you read your warranty agreement it will probably say that if your card suffers a defect as a result of excess temperature that it is not their fault and so not covered. The warranty only covers you against manufacturing defects these normally present themselves relatively quickly, like it being DOA or within the first month.

One company can't remember which does have a warranty which is not effected by the removal of the stock cooler but I can't remember which and since you already have the card it is probably a moot point.

Oh and here is a piccy of an HR-03 (not GT model but assume it has similar dimensions just more heatpipes).

and in case people worry about my cabling this is what it looks like now
