Bought my 9700pro second hand a bit back. Its the ATi one - identified by computer and 3dMk01 & 03 as a 9700 pro. Was thinking about selling it and when I took it out for a bit look the stickers all say 9700 on it. Nowhere does it say 9700pro. Used to have a Gigabyte 9700pro and this performs every bit as good but doesn't o/clock very well. Is this a 9700 thats been flashed with a 9700pro bios?? Not dure of the difference between a 9700 and the pro

unfortunatly, the ram is chosen by the manuf and not ati - they can use any ram they want. what brand is your card? sapphire made ones (which make 80% of all ati cards, most of which get rebranded) have decent samsung 2.8ns mem on all pro cards.
the cores on both pro and non pro 9700's are EXACLTY the same in quality, they will overclock just as far with the same settings and cooling, although the 9700np does have a lower vref, which might afect it, i suspect though this is more affecting mem overclocks.
even the worst mem (infinion 3.3) is rated for 310mhz, though non pro cards have it underclocked, as it increases yeilds (less failures/returned cards)
Will it not say pro on the GPU core?
it is samsung memory but not sure what rating it is. I suppose at the end of the day it doesn't really matter if I keep it - it's just what I tell people what it is when I sell it.
cant rememeber seeing it when i took my w/b off few weeks ago. as i said, all the cores are the same, just set at diff speeds (9500np/p's are NOT the same! they are the ones ati think wont make it to a 9700/pro). usually theres a white sticker on the back saying the card and serial number, but that could easly be faked...
also check the pci device id, says it on boot or in the drivers. 4E44 is for 9700PROs, 4E45 is for 9700non pros. note that some manuf have used 4E44 on non pros (like mine, a sapphire card) and some have used 4E45 on pros, whihc i htink was power colour. 4E45 cards used to be looked, iirc, by the drivers, so that overclocking could not be done on them.
Isnt there a part code on the card you can reference on the manufacturers site?
