£400 to spend, recommend me a 24" monitor that supports sound, vga, component.

I'm looking for a monitor that supports my computer (vga) and my 360 (old component model) and it also needs to have some sort of sound jack that comes with it so I can plug some 2.1 speakers into. I asked something similar to this before however I made the mistake of assuming my 360 was HDMI, it's not.

I had a look at the Hyundai w240D and it pretty much fits the criteria giving me component, hdmi, dvi and VGA (component being very important to me)

Does anyone have any issues with this monitor, or can you suggest anything better for me in the £400 range budget?

Any help would be great as I need to decide pretty soon.

Doesnt do the sound though, but you might consider something like these:
Creative 2.1 I-Trigue. They are £58 at the moment, but scan sometimes run offers on them. I bought them for just over £20 (a real bargain).

Edit: I think i misunderstood your request - do you already have speakers but want to plug them into the monitor? If so, why?

My budget is stretched at £400 already so that setup is too expensive. I want to plug my 2.1 speakers into the headphone jack so I can have sound when I use component so this means the monitor would need to have some sort of speakers.

OK, but you realise that the sound that goes into the speakers would come from the PC? So you could plug your headphones into the monitor to listen to the PC, but then when you want to use your Xbox via component you'd have to unplug the headphones from the monitor and stick them into the Xbox. Right?

the component cable should have a left and right audio channel on it. ie red, blue, green plug for video and red, white for audio. If this is the case u can hook them up to your speakers directly or get a cable that converts the l/r into a headphone 3.5mm jack

also u could use a vga cable for ur x360 to hook it up to the monitor, its another option u may not have thought about

Of course. I have 7.1 speakers for my PC anyway. I will have 2.1 for my 360. Or whichever way round I'd want it.

Anyone got any suggestions or opinions on the monitor?

the 24" in my sig was just shy of £400 direct from dell last april or may, well its predecessor was. The known issue of power button receding into fascia stoped me from using it, fortunately a quick call and next day i reciev the replacement which turned out to be the updated model, cannot fault them on customer service

I should be getting one of the Hyundai panels in the next few days, was £411. I'll let you know how it is when it arrives.

I got a W240D for xmas, but sent it back because of 6 stuck pixels... My general feeling about the monitor was good though. I bought it having researched 24" monitors for months and it seemed like the best one out at the time. Had a load of connections and good reviews.

When I sent it back via DSR I decided to go one step better and get the PVA version of the W240D. It was exactly the same but with a better panel, colours and viewing angles are definitely better (and also like the W240d, no ghosting).

I can't recommend this monitor enough, especially at the price. One thing I will say is that the new dell 24" looks pretty good and is just a bit over £400...

From the little time I've to play around, the monitor seems good. No dead or stuck pixels that I can see. Comes with a vga & DVI lead in the box, along with a quick start guide, manual on cd, UK/Euro power lead & a dusting cloth.

The PC I tried over VGA looks great at 1920x1200. I've not tried the DVI or HDMI ports yet (I have my HD-DVD player en route for the HDMI). I also hooked up an XBMC soft-modded Xbox via component. Setting the screen to PAL 60 resulted in a waverin gof the image, so I reverted to PAL 50 and it's all good. I tried to use the Enigmah vide switch to get NTSC res but the setttings don't stick after a restart. When I did try 720p or 1080i all I get is a blank screen. I'll try my chipped XBMC console at some point, which is set to NTSC.

Oh, and I'm lying. I hooked up a 360 Arcade via HDMI briefly. The speakers are tinny as expected, but the console defaulted to 1080p as standard. It looked good of course, but no better than 720p on my 50" RP I'd say. I thank that's more of a 360 only upscaling 720p to 1080p issue though.

Will report back when the HD-DVD player arrives.

Hooked it up to the HD-DVD player via component now, is looking jolly tasty. There was a nasty line in the middle of the screen when playing back HD disks @ 1080p. A formware update for the player fixed that though.
