Hi,
I'm looking to reduce the noise of my system and it seems my HD2900 will have to make way for something passive.
Can I have some suggestions please, and does anyone know what price my HD2900 would fetch?

Scan sells this 3870 (passive) for £142.
It'll be approximately the same level of graphics ability (perhaps a little better) than you currently have.
My best guess for selling a 2900 - £100 max??

System as shown, plus: Microsoft Wireless mobile 4000 mouse and Logitech Illuminated keyboard.
Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones. Creative Gigaworks T40 SII. My wife. My Hexus Trust
I can thoroughly recommend the Leadtek 8800GT which I got from Overclockers.co.uk It has a Zalman cooler in place of the stock fan and is inaudible at its ootb settings.
You could install a HR03 on your current card. You will probably still need a fan unless you have amazing cooling in your case but the noise levels will still be greatly reduced over the stock cooler
Thanks for the replies.
I think I will go for another card, either the 3870 or 8800GT and sell my 2900.
I'm just bumping this back up because I am still to get a new card.
Is there anything else on the market now in the £150 budget region to replace my HD2900 (Remember needs to be silent/passive)..
Thanks
What about this?

Its significantly more powerful then your 2900, and silent at the same time.
There is also this-

Edit: About the same as your 2900 in terms of performance,.

The 9600GT is about the same level as a 3870 which was about the same as a 2900XT so all in all that would be a move sideways but it is obviously passive and will consume a lot less power than the 4850 which in my opinion should not be run passive unless the case has exceptionally high airflow.
Saw this in a CCL email today.. http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...mpaign=VGA5048
Not the best brand in the world and no idea how it performs, but £115 isnt bad 9800GT these days full stop!
Oh yes I forgot what the 9600GT was, (thinking of the 9800gt). Silly nvidia with all their names

Looking at the above review I agree that decent case cooling is a must, as it can get quite toasty.
This HD4850 is meant to be very quiet:

There are two versions!! One has GDDR4 memory(the one from Ebuyer and Scan) and the other GDDR3 memory:

I'm liking the 4850 ideas.
I can go 1Gb w/ GDDR3 OR 512mb w/ GDDR4. Would these even themselves out in terms of performance?
GDDR3 does have higher power consumption than GDDR4 though. The GDDR4 card does have a smaller power supply circuit too. This will mean potentially lower overclocking capability but may also mean that the design consumes less power too! This will mean a less hot card(at least for the memory and power supply circuits).

Here is a picture of the GDDR3 version:

Sparkle is a very good brand, just not very common in the EU
For £115 with a passive 9800gt is a good price(I've seen that cooler before but I just cannot remember who makes it
)
The one thing to remember with almost any passive cooler is you need good case air flow, but you can often tie a case fan onto a passive cooler to greatly improve temps and as long as you don't damage the cooler you'll not be breaking the warranty![]()
