    HD Monitor?

OK this is probably a silly question, so don't laugh

Do HD monitors exist? I have a HD camcorder and want to play the HD footage on my computer, do I need a HD monitor, in the same way I need a HDTV to watch the content in HD on TV, or is it to do with the graphics card (the footage is obviously transferred to the computer first, I don't want to connect the camcorder directly to the monitor and play it from there.)

    Re: HD Monitor?

You should be fine with what you have as the vast majority of monitors will have a horizontal resolution of greater than 720 (which is the minimum for HD)

I think what you're getting confused with is the copy protection that HD films are protected by which requires you have to HDCP compliant hardware/ software. As you're taking footage from your camcorder it won't be copy protected so you'll be fine.

    Re: HD Monitor?

most are hd compatable nowdays and can cope with the resolution

so long as you get at least 1280x720 resolution you will be ok.

    Re: HD Monitor?

If you want full HD then you need to get a monitor with 1920x1200 resolution (ie any 24" monitor)

    Re: HD Monitor?

Ok cheers everyone. Just looking at my footage on the comp it doesn't look as good as when played on our HDTV. Don't know why that is then.
