    Triplex HD 3870

Just bought this card from Scan.....so i'm guessin quite a few other people have got it....anybody else think its just a bit...well....meh?

You can hardly overclock the gpu....you get to about 801-805 before it starts cryin like a little girl.....

the memory get to about 2500-2600....but the bloody thing has no ramsinks....so the things are grilled enough to fry eggs on the damn things,

Wish i'd paid about 15 quid more and got a saffire or msi or asus card...pfft

See if you can grab an after market cooler or some of those small heat sinks for the memory

    Re: Triplex HD 3870

i was thinking about getting the AC Accelero S1 with the Turbo module for it, and some zalman ramsinks.....

but will a better cooler allow for the gpu clock speeds to increase?? just that the temps wern't getting that high when it was running at 801Mhz....only about 60 degrees.

    Re: Triplex HD 3870

That would invalidate warranty. if it plays the games you want at good speed then don't bother overclocking. just be happy

I've heard that this card has a special feature that recognises when you post on internet forums with correct spelling and sentence structure; it then allows an extra 20% overclock. Have you tried this?

    Re: Triplex HD 3870

It's pot luck with all chips, and no 2 cores are the same. So long as they work at the speed stated, then that's good enough to sell. The better yields will likely be going to things like the Sapphire Atomic and the HD3870X2s. The budget cards just get the chips that are good enough.

Just like CPUs. The majority of Q6600s will hit 3.3GHz and more. Some won't go beyond 3.0GHz. It's all down to yields.

Just be pleased you've not got one of the G92 8800s - I've read that yields are so poor nV are only just breaking even with them. ATi are apparently making more from their less popular HD38x0s than nV are from their 8800s. Heightens the chance that you'll end up with a poor 8800 that won't clock much beyond the stock.

Have to say that memory overclock is far beyond what most budget cards will get though... you could never reasonably expect any more.
