NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX Early Test! :: TweakTown
Performs better than i expected, would of been a better review with a 8800gts and a stock gt.
Any guesses on the price? if its reasonable my bank account may feel the pain.

looks good. how much will ti cost?
I'd consider it if the board layout is the same - and I can therefore reuse my existing waterblock. It ought to be..
It all looks pretty average.
Certainly not a good upgrade either.
It does less than 15K on 3D Mark 06.......thats poor!
i dont care about 3d mark scores, its all about real world performances and for me any 8 or 9 series cards is a HUUUGE upgrade over an AGP 7800 gainward bliss :P
Still doesn't look like it will handle Crysis at 1920x1200 (or above) at 60FPS minimum :(
It's really one for the 22 and 24" monitor crowd. The 8800GT is petty pants at 16x 10x and 19x 12x. Example the 8800 GT gets 30fps in Crysis and the 9800GTX gets 45fps, 9.5k vs 12.6k 3dmark etc.
I'm waiting to see how much it costs and what it's like against 8800GT SLI. I've got one 8800GT at the moment and it's just not enough to run games at 19x 12x. No rush anyway, no interesting games out for months.
Still no cost effective upgrades for my GTS 320 then... :(
They really did do quite a fantastic job with the original 8800\'s didn\'t they.. The old GTX is still right up there.
They certainly do:
-8800GTX
-8800GTS 320mb & 640mb
-8800GT
-8800GTS 512 (G92)
ALL of these cards still hold their own fantastically well and run anything at decent settings at decent resolutions.
Why anyone would waste £400 on a new 9800 series card is beyond me when all of these can still do a VERY good job.
this is ment too be their "2x the performance of previous generations" oh and dont forget this " the biggest improvement since production" (something like that) this just makes it look like a major flop imo. Im glad i got my gts now :) if it comes out at £250+ then definitely, its an overclocked 8800GTS which with the added price and power and heat is worthless imo(except for triple sli, who has the money?).
Also in some of their analysis of the results its pretty poor 1 game the 8800GT got 10fps less when it was like 77 and the 9800GTX got 87 and yet they say it was a major gain but if it was 30-->40 maybe but when its over 50 then deffintly no.
where is this so called tera flop they was on about?
Just as a note.
The 9800GTX hit 15K on 3D Mark 06 yes?
Well i just ran 3D Mark 06 and got this:

500 Marks less than the 9800GTX. My card is £a hell of alot cheaper and i have no overclock on the GPU and only up to 3.0ghz for the CPU (can double my OC if needed).
With a small overclock on the GPU and pushing my CPU bacjk to 3.6ghz, i think 16500 is easily achievable.
I conclude the 9800GTX is poor value for money.
