New versus old Comparison charts ?
Is there any performance charts that compare the older GPU families to the new ones? I have a Geforce4ti4600 which does everything I want but, I need a new PCI-e card with similar or marginally better performance. Would like something that is passively cooled and not too expensive.
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
The geforce4 is pretty old skool I don't think anything you buy today would struggle to match it.
What are you expecting it to do?
This would probably do the Job Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
But you could look at
ATi HD3650 or Geforce 8500/8600GT's for around £50 passive.
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
The only ones I remember seeing were Tomshardwares charts but they have since changed them and removed all the older cards from the listings :(
Good news though is that the GF4 Ti4600 is very weak compared to most PCI-E cards today.
You may even find that a 7200 would be adaquate Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
Thanks for the info guys. I asked because I did have a FX5950 and it was no better than the Ge4ti4600. When the FX failed after a year or so I reverted back to the old card.
I did have a good look before and the FX5200 (i think) was a much poorer performer than my old ti4600.
I also have a Radeon 9800 pro in my other machine which I know is better than the ti4600.
I'm thinking of upgrading the machine and seeing that all the new boards are PCIe means that I'm going to have to change the graphics card as well.
I don't play games but, I also want a card that is not bottom of the range and must be able to do a resolution of 1920x1200.
What could you recommend for a budget of around £80 - Again without cooling fans please.
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
I temporarily ran an 8600GT on 1920x1200 (was upgrading to something else) and it was fine, even with all the silly effects in Vista. I got decent frame rates in WoW and TF2. As noted; can be had passive.
It's worth noting, this card is far more powerful than the 9800 Pro, which really struggled to run WoW on anything higher than the lowest settings on 1280x1024.
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
Not a lot fitting the spec, best I could find was this
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
Low cost, Passive cooling, HDMI Output (I assume you're looking at that from stated resolution)
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Don't expect to play any new games at that resolution.
And as to graphics card performance, non-gameing there's very little that actually uses much in the way of gpu power and should have no real effects on performance.
Only things that do:
Games
CAD or 3D modeling (when set to a non-software mode)
DVD playback (note actual dvd, not a dvd converted into an avi file or simular)
Other than that you should need a minimum of memory of 128mb (that's actually going to be hard to find now) to dissplay 1920x1200 at 32bit requires 70mb of graphics memory.
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably go for one of the HD3xxx ones then.
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
I think the Hd 3650 suggested by shaithis is probably you're best bet for the price.
Edit: change of mind!
Re: New versus old Comparison charts ?
try looking at ORB on Futuremark as that will allow you to compare all sorts of cards on a benchmark basis.. just the old ones will be rather low scores!
