I've hit an overclocking limit on my 9600XT

Right, my first attempt at the dark art of overclocking seems to have gone quite successful. At stock speeds (500/600) I'm getting 3507 in 3DMark03 and have managed to get and pretty good 15% extra so far (576/684) and am now getting 3995 (for those who need to know I got 10337 in 3DMark01). I think it's stable coz I played LO:MAC at these speeds for over an hour with no problems at all!

Now, I'm using the excellent Omega drivers (which seems to have cured all my previous problems) and I've installed Rage3D to overclock, but it limits at 576MHz for the core. How can I go higher?

I wanna see what this baby can do! Anyone get this card higher than 576MHz? If so, how?

Hmm, just read the review on Hexus and spotted this:

The GPU slider is at maximum. PowerStrip was also used but the card began to have serious stability problems at anything over 580MHz core. So much so that the desktop became corrupted and the drivers had to be removed and installed to cure the problem. At 576MHz, however, everything was as smooth as a baby's bottom. The 2.8ns memory showed no artifacts at 729MHz DDR, and only the odd one at 740MHz. The final, overclocked speeds were tested using AquaMark3 at 1024x768x32 with 4x AA and 8x AF.

Maybe I can't go much higher... but I'll try the memory at 729MHz like it says there. Where can I get PowerStrip?

I wouldn't know where to start with that so I'm not gonna risk it!

Downloaded a BIOS editor specifically or that card, tweaked the speeds a tad n then flashed the BIOS, dead easy but I cant say I blame u for not wanting to try it...

The recent catalysts come with ATI's overdrive utility, which supposedly provides an automatic overclock whilst monitoring temps. Using the Omega version and with overdrive turned on, I managed 3990 3Dmarks. Is Overdrive a puny overclocker or can it go much higher than this?

try radclocker or radlinker as i think its now called,it used to be bundled with the omega cats

Rivatuner is probably the best tool for overclocking ATi cards, ATitool is good for finding max clocks, but then ATi tool told me that I couldn't get above 340 mem artefact free, but then I found that I can push all the way to 360mem on my card with no artefacting thru 3DMark03.

what was your core setting both those times
if i reduce my core i can get my memory timing higher without artefacts

another 5mhhz on your mem speeds and thats 9800xt mem speeds
my 9800 pro maxes out at 370 mem and if as your sig suggests your gpu
speed is 622 that is a helluva 9600xt card you got there m8 my card maxes out at 440

My core on @ 340Mem was 622, at 360Mem it was 618/619ish

with some ramsinks (which I've got to get my ass into gear and make) there'll be more from the memory or possibly the same memory clock for more core

I'll have a look and see what 3DMark2001SE does in a short while might be able to break the 16k barrier with 20Mhz more on the mem

nice card m8 especially a 9600 xt get some copper ramsinks and you will be flying !!with my 9800 pro at 425/369 this is my best 2001 mark
