Ok, put AA / AF on to max on the ati control panel, run 3dmark...

Then disable AA / AF and see the difference, you'll see that it does make a difference and 3dmark itself doesnt turn it off.

Also try with the Quality / performance settings and you will see.

you only need to run the game tests to get a 3DMark score, the rest are just for theoretical performance tests

And yes, you have to disable AA/AF/Vsync in the ATI CP. Disabling Vsync will also increase your score slightly

and on the original subject, yes, 16k is very low for a 9800 pro.

Important things which increase 3Dmark2001 scores (hardware wise):
    • memory timings... get them as close to 2-2-2-6 as possible, they increase your score in Car and Lobby
    • FSB... the higher your FSB the better you will score in the Car and Lobby tests
    • Dragothic is GPU dependant as is nature, Car and Lobby are more about system bandwidth than GPU speed, although GPU speed does affect the score a bit in Car and Lobby a little, but not as much as memory timings and fsb

622/340 @ 2600Mhz returned around the same Car High and Lobby High scores as 632/370 @ 2570Mhz

    Car High: 101.3fps / 102.6fps
    Lobby High: 113.8fps / 113.3fps

    First value is 622/340 @ 2600Mhz, 2nd is 632/370 @ 2570Mhz

I would expect around 18k out of your rig at it's current speed with stock Card clocks, overclocked I'd expect around 20-21k if ur lucky

He,s right 3d mark doesn,t do it for you.

You will have to set them to performance in the cat driver section

although ur score looks about right tbh m8y

    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7251506

thats what i used to get with my system fully loaded and ready for action but also consider my fsb and my gfx card was overclocked to 433 core and 371 memory so not really every day settings tbh

with the same system above standard i used to get 16,000 so urs looks about right

If you compare to mine bouncin, u will see what I mean about the system tests

the Lobby and Car tests are greatly affected by core speed, memory latency and memory bandwidth.

    why u runnin dx8.1 on a dx9.0 card m8y? just curious

but i do agree with what u said b4. the most important part in an overall score has to be ur cpu to mem bandwidth (f.s.b)

I wouldn't touch my memory timings because then if i _did_ get 18k then it would most probably be because of the timings so if i keep everything the way it is at the moment and then i'll do the necessary settings then tell you how it goes.

reminder, i've got the 3dmark2k1 updated patch which does lower your scores, should this be installed or have you lot got it installed?

Well you should all count your luckly stars (or pixels) I am about to upgrade my OLD OLD PC tonight with a 9800 Pro 128 MB which is actually going to go into a brand new P4 3Ghz machine ... BUT for the meantime I am going to play about with it in my P3 866.

It currently has a Geforce2 GTS 64MB, I did a 3D mark 2001 test last night for a laugh and to hopefully see a huge jump when I upgrade.

Ready for the MASSIVE score .......... 2318 wooo hoooo baby.

Just wanted to share my heady score since were all talking about scores of 15,000 - 16,000

DX8.1 and Cat3.2 are the fastest combination on 3DMark2001SE. DX8.1 is all that is required for 3DMark2k1, so that's what I use. It's about 400pts faster than DX9. When you're striving for every point that you can get, 400pts is quite a lot. I'm 56points behind the top Athlon XP & R9600 series combo, so everywhere that I can get those extra points is much needed. He has 200Mhz on my core speed as well, which makes it all the more interesting

The reason I say 18k is possible is: http://www.bit-tech.net/review/213/4

that'll be on a *fairly* unoptimised system, so 18k stock would definately be possible. Realistically though 17k would be a nice score to have on a stock 9800pro

yeah it is i get 17,500 standard on my system now which is real nice cos without any overclockin u dont need to worry about stability. and heat isnt a problem in prolonged gaming sessions which is nice

when u say ur 3dmark score is low, what are u expecting because to get even 19k ud have to uberclock the feck out of everything u got there.

my dads scores 14500 with same setup as mine but with a 1700+ at 11x166. Mind you there's basically no difference between 166 and 200 in terms of 3dmarks
