i am looking for more info on the Gecube HD 3870 512MB GDDR3 OC edition , i have got one coming to replace the triplex version i have just sold . what does the core + mem run at ? , i have seen 810mhz and 850mhz . which one is correct ? , how much slower are the gddr3 models compaired to the gddr4 models ? .
also i am running an old ati rage2 while i wait for my new gfx card , boy this thing is slow lol
Can't find a single review or mention of the Gecube 3870 oc edition.
But the difference between Gddr 3 and 4 is small. Gddr runs upto around 1800mghz where as the gddr4 can hit around 2400mghz max. From a graphics card performance there isn't much difference. You may notice some extra points in 3dmark but in games you won't notice it. Maybe if you bench marked the difference you may also see 5% difference, if that.
Ati Rage2 ruled. I have one as a back up on Pci.... Works a treat. - not for games though :rockon2:

seems odd to me why no reviews of this card have been done , hope it runs better than the triplex version . i sold that one cause it would not overclock at all , i hope the new one serves me well . this also cost me less than the triplex version , if all goes well i will buy another to crossfire it

As to overclocking I seem to remember that the 3870 is some what limited without volt modding it. 906mhz is max I seem to remember.
Although this is probably the single best cooler out for the 3850/3870, just hopeing they still have some in stock when I've got enough cash to get one.
recieved this card , it runs @ 850 gpu and 960 mem . runs cooler than the triplex hd3870xt with gddr4 and is faster , even the ccc overdrive works (8.3 on the driver disk) . bios date is 28/2/08 , is this the new bios i have heard about ?
Well the reports are that at 862mhz gpu is max with the old BIOS of a 3870
An unlocked BIOS caps out at 877mhz (although some have reported 891 without volt modding)
To push it past 890 you'd have to volt mod it, look around people have figured out how to do it, with both veriable resistors and pencils ;)
Not sure what the mem max would be on that ddr3 but I'd guess that it's pritty close to it already. (seems to work best the same as the old x1900 increaseing in multiples of 27mhz)
PS you can check the BIOS version by using GPU-z
in ccc it reports 870mhz max for the gpu and 1000mhz max for the mem , the ati overdrive clocks it @ 860mhz on the gpu and 990mhz on the ram . @stock the mem bandwidth is 61.4 and overclocked it is @ 63.4 GB/s , not a bad increase for a small overclock . max temp i have had on this card is 68c , on the triplex version it was 81c max
On my Gecube X-Turbo III I can run at core 885 and memory 1126 (max CCC will allow) using Rivatuner or Ati tool people have had them past 900MHz GPU without volt mods
But you have to remember that the X-Turbo III has its own personal Bios revision which doesn't work on any other 3870 (at least it didn't when I got mine back in January/February time)
