The whole 9series generation is just destined to flop conidering its price v performance.

Its the worst value range for as long as i can remember.

I do. But then I don't. SLI doesn't work in all circumstances, it uses stacks of power and it'll be a bitch to cool. When SLI works in a game it'll be stinking fast though. Argh.

Nope, i'll wait for the next series and stick with my plan of buying a single-chip-high-performance solution.

Yup - waterblock on the top will add 50-70 quid at a guess making this far too expensive.

That's how I feel.

If someone we to give a card like that to me, great. But the chances of me forking out that kinda wedge for a card to play games on are, at most, and on a good day, zero.

They are too expensive, @£250 maybe. I'll stick with my overclocked 8800gtx for now. I'm dissappointed with the 9800, I was expecting a new chipset/card in March 08, instead we just get two 8800GTS's on one board.......what's that all about ?

It's about ATI not having tangible competition for the leading edge cards. People crowed about how nVidia were so far ahead when the 8 series came out and look what it got us - a lazy refresh.
We'll now have to wait for the next series of cards for the real improvements - hopefully ATI will push nVidia harder next time round (signs are good that AMD/ATI are getting back on track).

It's due to nVidia having already released the 9 series with an 8 series badge on it, the 8800 gt and the new gts. Though admittedly, even when you take that into account it still isn't much of a boost over the older 8 series cards.

I would take one if you gave it to me. But I won't consider buying one...I might consider going to a 9800 GTX from my 8800GT, but...I doubt it. I'd be more likely to update my E6750 to a quad-core, get Vista 64, and maybe buy another 4 GBs of RAM, so I'd have 6 GBs in there.

After owning the 7950 GX2 (now relegated to the cupboard since installing a 8800 GT) and the rapid decline in nVidia's support (once the 8 series came along it was practically forgotten with regards to driver fixes) I wouldn't go down that route again. The performance increase wasn't benefiting me across all of the titles I played and that appears to be the case with the 9800 GX2 also. That and the fact that dual-monitor and SLi cannot be enabled concurrently meant switching between gaming and work modes was/is a real pita.

Until nVidia develop a solution were SLi and dual/multi-monitors work harmoniously, or at least swiching doesn't interfere, I'll stick to using a single GPU and a single card.

tbh the 8800gt is good enough plays all the games i want it to brilliantly

the thing is there isnt many games the 8800/3800 series cant play well. The only comes too mind is crysis which is still playable on the 8800's etc(not too a good standard for a flagship though) and paying insane amount just too play that game @ 40fps (at most?) compared too 30fps is a joke and a waste of money unless you really have it spare.

Id want one but would never buy one out of my own pocket.
