    9800GTX SLI or 9800GX2

As the title says which would be the better choice, they are around the same price to get an SLI GTX or a single GX2 but which is likely to give the better performance. On a resolution of 1900x1200.

    Re: 9800GTX SLI or 9800GX2

If you have a decent SLI capable motherboard, the 9800 GTX SLI'd will be faster due to the faster cores and memory.
    Otherwise, 9800 GX2

    Re: 9800GTX SLI or 9800GX2

cheers guys, do any of you know a rough idea of the games that support SLI atm, its a long term investment so not to bothered about not too many supporting SLI now but are future games likely to support them or not?

Nearly every game now supports multiple graphics cards.

I know FSX doesnt for a fact though.

    Re: 9800GTX SLI or 9800GX2

dont expect a huge performance boost in crysis though, that fails with multi gpu. sli would probably be better BUT id say if you could, wait till mid year with the 9900 4800 series releasing around there, will be a crysis killer(hopefully).

    Re: 9800GTX SLI or 9800GX2

    Hi i would recommend a 9800gx2 i own one.
    techPowerUp GPU-Z Validation 6zene

But now i m thinking it was an overkill.I have a 640mb 8800gts on my old pc and plays most games at max settings.I am planning on an sli of 2 x 640mb 8800gts.I bought one from Overclockers for £100 last week.

I hope u make the right choice!

    Re: 9800GTX SLI or 9800GX2

Go for 9800GTX SLI if you already have an SLI capable board. These games are certified SLI optimized but I'm sure they are more that aren't listed: Supported Games

I would take the 9800GX2 over SLi.

You will notice no difference in games whichever you chose anyway.

For that card and a Q6600@ 3.6ghz, i wouldve expected a higher score than the one you have.

That makes your score even more concerning.
Those are very high end parts with a score that i would expect to be at the very least around the 22K mark.

Look at my sig below. I can hit just short of 16K with a Q6600 at only 3.2ghz. If i bumped that to 3.6ghz i would only be a couple of hundred points off 19K.

Something wrong there fella im afraid

    That score looks about right.

9800GX2 isnt as good as you would think in 3dmark 06.

Really? The 9800GTX is clocked at 675/2200 compared to the 9800GX2 at 600/2000. Even with stock cooling I would expect potentially better overclocks from the GTX which aren't nearly as cramped.

Take a look at the other threads.
The 9800GTX isnt even as good as a 8800GTX.

Go the Hexus review page and take a look also. The 9800GTX loses out to the 8800GTX on almost all occassions. Its also only a cats whisker better than the 8800GTS G92.

The 9800GTX is a white elephant. (Unless you were one of the lucky ones that got it for £169.)

I DEFINITELY wouldnt part with £200+ for a card that is now better than its predecessors.
