    Question 8800GTX or 9800GTX

    Hey guys,
I have been saving some cash lately and have decided to get rid of my 7600's and buy either a 8800GTX or a 9800GTX. The only proplem is i have heard so many great things about them both and bad things about them both. I was thinking about the 9800GTX because it is new and i bound to have more pros then cons than the 8800. I was wondering if anyone could guide me in the right direction as to which Graphics card i should buy.

    Many Thanks

    Re: 8800GTX or 9800GTX

Personally I would go for the 9800GTX as it seems the performance generally is better than the 8800 and its power consumption is lower. What resolution are you playing at? The 8800 only gets close at high res with its extra RAM.

i really couldn't tell you what resolution im using because my PC is at my Mum's and i havnt been on it for about two months, but i'm going back on later on. But so far the 9800GTX seems to get the vote at the moment.

8800GTX for 1920x1200 +, otherwise the 9800GTX ought to do you well...

welcome to the forums, by the way .

My mojo says if you can get 8800gtx for £30 less than a 9800gtx then go for the 8800gtx, the price difference isn't worth it. Otherwise grab a 9800gtx, they are not much of an improvement over the 8800gtx, but I suspect it will outperform 8800gtx when new games come out...

    Re: 8800GTX or 9800GTX

i read that the drivers can do nothing than improve for the 9800gtx aswell, so eventually it might start to seem a good buy. i got a 9800gtx xfx xxx , just waiting for my mobo then i can try it out

To the OP, you shouldn't really be considering a 8800/9800GTX unless you're running 1680x1050 at the very least, I'd even go so far as to say that unless you're running at 1920x1200 you should probably look at the 8800GTS.

no. it will struggle, due to the reduced memory bandwith and vram.. the 8800GTX is still a VERY powerful card for such resolutions
