If it was for me I would, but it's for my Dad whos a bit of a cheap skate. He's using an AMD BARTON 2500+ CPU and has 1Gb PC3200 memory, I have no idea if this can be transfered to a new motherboard?

Most new boards will not be compatible with PC3200, it's got 182 pins as opposed to the 240 now used.
It may be possible that you could find a board on ebay that'll take the ram/cpu with a PCI.

    Re: £50 AGP Card

Check out tomshardware.co.uk which has a good graphics section and a regular roundup of the recommended graphics cards in various price categories including AGP as well as PcIE.
There are AGP cards available which will do just fine on this rig unless your dad is playing Crysis maxed out on a 24" monitor
Also you don't need to spend a fortune either or endure the hassle of a mobo swapout to get a decent AGP card.
There are even better choices available if you are prepared to by a used AGP card.
