    Whats after the XT's

    Hiya peeps,

would like to know if anyone here knows whats gonna pop up round the corner in the GPU world. We seen ATI released refined versions of thier cards for a couple of years now. Any new technology to look out for???

All I have seen in past months are just little performance increases mainly from increased clocks on the cards. Will there be a jump in performance since I can't imagine ATI pushing much more outta their chip.

The new ATi GPU's have been shipped to the leading manufacturers. R420's iirc GDDR2 etc

The new nVidia cards are meant to make games such as Half Life 2 perform 7 times better. I think it's best to wait for a new graphics card. After those lot i would expect PCI-X cards will be manufactured. An interesting future for the world of graphics that's for sure

yeah I remember reading about the PCI-X stuff a little while back..just got myself a 9800Pro to play around with until something major comes onto the scene. I sold my old system and been stuck with a 9200 for the time being...after a couple of months of getting slow down playing CS I thought enough was enough..just had to grab something.

9800pro delivered £170 with 1 year warranty can't be bad. At least I will be able to play games again now hehe.

hhhmm R420's...gotta keep an eye out for that one, sounds promising. Well just gonna have to wait.

    warrenty..?!?!? whats that?

i dont know about the nvidia cards, i know a lot of people are hoping they will be good, i am not however, personally i would prefer ati to keep the small but good lead it has in the graphics market. i dont think nvidia cards will be MUCH better either - they have already got the 0.13 process and theres not much mroe they can do apart from redesign parts of there arcitecture...
ati will be moving from 0.15 to 0.13 with its r420 core (same as the crippled 9600xx and the nvidia fx range are already using) whihc should allow for some very decent high clock speeds. i dont think 700mhz on gpu will difilcuit using watercooling/other cooling. what speeds are nvidia cards getting now?
dx9.1 also brings lots of new features which both nvidia and ati say they support, also S3(?) are returnign to gfx markter with a dx9 card which should be good for competition...

pci-x has acctually been out a while for servers and people seem to be confused as its not the same thing as pci-express. pci-express isnt really important for gfx cards imo, they already have plenty of bandwidth, though there may be other changes that could make good improvements... i htink however that it will be good for other devices as 133mb/s was probably a bit limiting for some..

proces have already started droping a lot with current cards, hopefully it will contiune more upto the launch dates

I thought PCI-Express cards were going to be introduced into the BTX format on 64bit motherboards? (so says the news sites)

for buzzwords i think that the next generation of gpu will have SP latched onto them e.g. ATi Radeon 9990SP

nitendo started it is yet to catch on...
