Monitor help

I need a new monitor.. I currently have a 15" CRT that clogs up my desk, fills the entirity of it and basically leaves me no room for a keyboard. Well.. nearly no room. It certainly means that stuff like CD cases, DVDs and other assorted rubbish can't accumulate between keyboard and monitor.

I feel like I'm missing out on something.


I've got £110 (just about) to spend on a monitor, and I'm not really too fussy about what it is.
It's probably for a little gaming, a little watching of DVDs and a little of everything - if this has any effect on what you suggest.

I run my system on 2xHD3650 GDDR3 512mb with 4GB (minus the little bit taken up for system usage and so on) RAM.

So then - suggest away! I always appreciate help, and will thank you profusely if you do help me.

What size are you after? 17"? 19"?
Do you need speakers with the monitor?

i've got a 19 inch acer screen if you wanna purchase it off me?
still got the box that it came with, and its pretty much new, as i haven't used it in a while.

Edd - irrelevant.. but it needs to work :P Obviously the bigger the better and as far as I can make out my desk has a 22-24" wide place where a monitor could go... far bigger than 17" or 19." Speakers would be useful, but not essential, simply because I've already got about a million speakers that I connect up in different ways every 10 seconds, and more speakers won't help the tangle of wires I always have.


rjkp - I would... but it'd mean playing with stuff like collection and being being a minor would probably also cause havoc with my parents, who weren't happy with the idea of my computer, let alone me buying a monitor off of some unknown person on the web :P

Considering that you are using two graphics card definitely go for a 20 or 22 inch.

I had a 19inch and felt it a bit small for my needs, and my new 22 inch is gorgeous, was cheap and is nice for working and watching movies on :)

(Resolution 1680x1050, though If you want full 1080P resolution get a 24 inch screen... thought I think they are a bit out of your price range)

FYI I got my monitor for £115, and other 22inch ones have dropped to around £120/130, I'd probably say it's worth getting a 22inch over a 20 inch as the extra 2 inch is sure to make a nice amount of difference, whilst keeping icons at a suitable size :)

I'd prefer scan (no postage!!!) but don't mind using other places as well.

22" would be cool... then I can play "whose got the bigger monitor" and win

£110, it slightly not enough for a 22". Most decent 22" are around £150ish. I've recently ordered this one: Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK which is due to arrive soon.

If you're unsure of what size screen to go for, I'd recommend going down to a local electronics shop and compare the sizes.

£110 was a shot in the dark. Another hour or two's work and the budget goes up and up ;P

Tbh, I think monitors are a personal preference, people usually buy them on how they look. So you should have a look through these and see which ones you like the look of. I'd definitely consider one with a response time of 5ms or lower and a DVI input. The rest is up to you.

So nothiang matters but 5ms response and DVI? hmmm.. interesting viewpoint.

dvi and vga is a must :)

i got a Fujitsu D22W-1 it's cheap and cheerful but looks and performs great for the price. Have a look around but between £110-£200 in the 22inch rnage there isn't going to be much difference between monitors as they will all have the same TN panel. Which is bad for viewing angle, but then you're going to be sat in front of it most of the time :D

You will be paying for looks and brand names.

A monitor with HDCP will cost more than £110. Most 22" with HDCP are around £200.

Mine is HDCP and mine cost £115. 22inch Fujitsu D22W-1

It's not an expensive technology, most newer / newly released monitors should support it :)

two fuji siemens 22"ers here. can fully recommend.

the viewing angle is good enough that i have to reeealy lean to the sides to get them to start yellowing
