8800GS vs 8800GT - Advice please?

Hey everyone,

Its official. My 7950GT doesnt like Vista 64bit. Unfortunately for me thats what I recently upgraded to and I dont want to go and buy a 32bit version for the sake of the graphics card.

Now here is my plan. Im hoping to sell the 7950GT on the classifieds section which will help me put it towards buying a new card. The question is, which one?

I have three choices all ranging upto my budget of £120.

1. 384MB 8800GS for £90 at Scan
2. 512MB 8800GT PNY for £115 at Scan
3. 512MB 9600GT for £117 at Scan

No my card at the moment is a Gainward Bliss 256MB 7950GT Golden Sample and when I bought it it was a great card. Id still use it if it wasnt for compat issues with Vista

I just picked up a 8800GTS 512Mb for 99+VAT+Del (121 all in) from microdirect.

Might be other offers like this arround

BTW depending on clocks and overclockability 8800GT is slightly better than 9600GT

Ended up getting a 8800GT OC 512MB by BFG from Scan. Seems very cheap tbh!

Yep .. you won't regret your purchase, good choice. They overclock quite well, the GTs, although they do run quite hot .. so maybe a third party cooler might be needed if you plan to o/c it.

I also went from an 7950GT to an 8800GT, not a huge upgrade but when u really hammer the system the new card shows its strength. FYI I ran my 7950GT on Vista 64 H.P with no probs

Seems like a common issue and the only way around it is to overclock the GPU and Mem slightly. Something was around a lot of the forums about Vista not like factory overclocked cards?

Ive bought it now anyway, so fingers crossed its ok
