    Nvidia vs Ati (again) midrange cards

    I know the nvidias aren't supposed to be great for directx9 performance compared to the ati's, but what would be better an Ati 9600xt (seen all the good reviews including the hexus one) or a Nvidia fx 5900xt, also can you softmod the nvidia into something better. What are good prices and makes for both of these cards?

    tis a mixed up and complicated area at the mo ,with pci express around the corner and the next gen of video cards soon to be released

    u can get 9800pro's for less than £170

    9800 non pro's for £135

    fx 5900's for £140

    rad 9600xt's for £100ish

    so it really depends on whether or not you can stretch to get the 9800pro or not and whether u want to overclock it aswell

    also 9800SE_AIW cards are just 9800PRO_AIW cards with a 50% possibility of having 4 broken pipelines - so four are disaled as defualt which gives less performance (about same as 9600XT performance). they can be re-enabled giving full 9800PRO performance with also AIW features. currently they are £130 inc at lowestonweb (see bargain hunt forum)
    a 9800np will easly overclock past the 9800pro stock speeds for core. memory will depend on which it has. core gives the most perf increase, so you can get very nice overclocks
    i wouldnt bother with a 9600xt unless you want to spend less than £100. if you can afford more id deifnatly chose either the 9800np or 9800SE_AIW if you want to take the risk. both cards should outperform the fx5900 XT nicely. nvidia cards cant be softmodded, only overclocked and bios flashed..

    i wouldnt really bother with a 9800se unless u want the tv tuner / video in function as if it doesnt softmod (which there is a fair chance it wont) then u loose out

    I'd go for the 9800 non pro. Fast card without the risk.

    The NVIDIA 5700 Ultra is supposed to be a good mid range card. Especially the Gainward version.

    They're claming that their Radeon's contain a painting of the fallen madonna with the big boobies.

    (Sorry, couldn't help it.)
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Wow seems mighty impressive, might get me one even though it will be a hassle importing it
