    Re: ibm lenovo 8808 thinkcenter

Does it have only one standard PCI slot, or any PCI-e/AGP slots, as from the diagram's on their website, they said that it had a PCI riser connector, but no information on the PCI slots. This will determine what Graphics card you need to buy.

Sorry that I don't own one, or I could have had a look

that machine only has a pci-e 1x so you cant really upgrade using that although it does have a pair of pci slots and some pci based 8400's coming out soon. and for the moment they will be your best bet.

You can get pci-e x 1 to x 16 converters, so a full grapics could will work just at x 1 speeds. I tried a 6600gt in one and it worked fine.

That looks as though it could work, but wouldn't it run really slowly, and only be able to run some of the older cards, because of the limited speeds of PCI-ex1

    Re: ibm lenovo 8808 thinkcenter

using the adapter will still be faster than standard pci, but yes it will be slower than x16.
I'm sure I read some benchmarking ages ago with previous gen cards and the speed loss wasn't as huge as you might think, but I can't find the link.
