    Hp or Dell 24 "

Looking at a 24" monitor, probably going to get the

    HP W2408H

    or the

    2408WFP

    or the

    DELL E248WFPhttp://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna...hs1&sku=128238

    Which one would you recommend?

Is it worth paying more for the ultrasharp?

I will be watching a lot of movies and playing games, mostly CS:S, TF2, Pro Evo.
I plan on upgrading my gfx card at some point when the new gen comes out so I can play assasins creed, COD4 etc.

    Thanks.

    I'd suggest the 24" Dell 2408WFP - from PcBuyIt

Why them? They offer a zero dead pixel guarantee, and 4 years next day OS warranty

even though i don't own a dell, i recommend the dell 2408 as well. the warranty is outstanding, 4 yrs swap and the no dead pixel guarantee is something thats so rare. plus the actual panel is better as well

Re: Hp or Dell 24 "

I was almost convinced to go for the Dell (despite having a near pathological hatred of them, due to having to deal with their PCs at work). But then I read that it has quite a bit of input lag, and I'm worried that would seriously annoy me. Is it really the case? If so, are there any decent alternatives, or is it just something that you have to put up with in a 24" monitor?

its not something you definitely have to put up with. not all of the 24" monitors have the same specs, even if they have the same panel model. input lag does vary between makes and models. although the dell does seem to have a higher input lag than quite a few of the monitors available, ppl's experience will differ. it's a good monitor without a doubt, some ppl notice the lag whereas others don't. it seems to be its only weak point, i doubt it would be so highly recommended if it was that bad tbh. only thing you could do is maybe give it a try if you know someone who has one....

I think the imput lag is completely overblown.

All reviews seem to have to find something negative to put in so they exaggerted an issue which many people do not find to be a problem.

At the end of the day it's up to you but the Dell is a great monitor and if you give up your £400 chances are you won't regret it.

Re: Hp or Dell 24 "

I got my 2408 luckily for £310 brand new on Ebay.

I had read about the input lag and was worried but I can't notice it at all.

Really would recommend it, it's huge.

Only complaint is when I use S-Video TV and the PC at the same time, there is a slight flickering which, I think there is a refresh rate change or something...

But seriously, pay the extra and get the SPVA panel, I went from a 2005FPW Dell to a Samsung allegedly good panel and I couldn't hack it so had to upgrade to the Dell Ultrasharp and am happy again.

It is (was?) double equivalent screens, including their own 2405FPW and 2407WFP, so it's not overblown. Whether you'll notice or not I doubt, but if you're playing fast FPS games competitively then I would look elsewhere.

Unless you want all the inputs the 2408 offers, I'd still go for the Benq FP241W personally, and that's coming from a 2408 owner.

DOA yes... but dead pixels wouldn't be a concern if he bought it from PcBuyIt - due to their 30 day "no dead pixel" guarantee

Re: Hp or Dell 24 "

pixel mapping is when you say connect a xbox or something else to the monitor, and it doesn't display the image at at the netive resolution. if it doesn't do pixel mapping then the image will be stretched to fill the monitor's native resolution. if it does then it will on 'turn on' the appropriate number of pixels. this means you'll get black bars, surrounding the image from the pixels which aren't turned on
