any quiet cards powerfull enough to play likes of crysis on a 52" 1080P tv?
as above i might build a small gaming pc to hook upto the tv
i dont want sli or crossfire and dont want a noisy card either
am i asking a bit much ?

quite possibly... depends on your definition of quiet.

You might get quiet-ish, depending on how much you stick the fan RPM's at.
Re: any quiet cards powerfull enough to play likes of crysis on a 52" 1080P tv?
well i was considering watercooling whatever card as my cpu is currently cooled with water , the only thing is the price of some of those gpu waterblocks approach a decent midrange card!
my definitionm of quiet is ...almost silent ..lol emm i know everyone is different in their perception of quiet but lets just say very quiet and unobtrusive
if i can get a good card thats passive or a very quiet fan cooler then i be happy to do so instead of going the water route as it will really only be used for gaming and some video encoding and file compression any other time it will be off and i will be playing the wii ps3 or 360
im very much a console gamer but my mates got an average gaming pc but its noisy as hell and asked him to get crysis to see what the fuss was about and its the only fps game iv ever got into an reckon would be quite fun on the big screen instead of his 19 inch monitor!

Hmm I don't know if there is any passively cooled card that would run Crysis at 1080p, on high, and with an acceptable frame rate. But someone else might know of one.
If water cooled is the way, then u'll be ok I guess
i run Crysis at high and get a decent frame rate at 1680x1050, with a 8800GTS, but I'm guessing if you want play higher resolution, you'd need a lil bit better card then that.

cool thanks its a gts my mate has im sure but he plays on a crappy screen which is like a 1280 at the most resolution screen
id like to be able to play at high settings atleast as the bigger the screen the worse things can look, im not upto scratch on anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering or whatever its called but i know they can have quite a performance hit at higher resolutions
think i will go the watercooling route then so the cards silent isnt so much of an issue now as price i dont fancy the likes of gx2's etc they seem quite expensive especially for someone like me whos not a hardcore gamer or whatever , just want it to look good on the big telly

Not much, though, as 1080P's only 1920x1080, i.e. 117.5% of your screen area. Another way to look at it is that 1080P should give frame rates at about 85% of yours.
It's like the difference between paying/not paying VAT!
WRT noise, even most high-end graphics cards are pretty quiet at idle. It's only when processing intensive 3D data (i.e. when gaming) that the fans'll spin up, and at that point you'll usually have the sound way up...

yea this is true, but when i say acceptable frame rate, i'm bordering, like 25-35 average. Which is ok for me, but i think others might want to play an FPS higher frames.

The best of the aftermarket heatsinks can cool the better cards like the 8800GTX.
SPCR use this

with a silent 120mm fan strapped to it, gives them fantastic ruslts.
You could also get this for an 8800GTX
