HD4870 does crysis 1920x1200

Crysis is a tough title as it scales very poorly no matter what graphics card or cards you have but at the same time you can only dream of 60 or 100 FPS at some of the higher resolutions.

Not even three GTX 280 cards are going to give you some cool performance number and we've learned that on a mainstream quad core Radeon HD 4870 can score 30.5FPS at 1920x1200. Unfortunately this is the resolution without FSAA and Aniso and if you really want to push it with 8X FSAA you will score quite acceptable 27.90 FPS. With this game this is considered as a great score.

Radeon 4850 scores 25 FPS at 1920x1200 no FSAA and Aniso and 21.7 FPS with 1920x1200 with 8X FSAA on.

It is interesting to point out that with the current driver Geforce 9800GTX scores 18.6 FPS at 1920x1200 no AA and 11.9 FPS at 1920x1200 8X FSAA"

Wonder what the X2 will do then? Retail for the single gpu card is supposed to be just $299. Now the 9800GTX+ makes sense - it's nVidia's reaction to the HD4870.

I would love to believe that, but Fudzilla's full of more than the Inquirer. Still, if thats true and the 4870 costs less than £250, that might well be my most expensive GFx card purchase ever.

Well they did say no AA/AF which may be possible (but I know what u mean about fud). If the 4870X2 does 1600x1200 @ 35fps with basic AA/AF that'll do me..

Judging by other tests, if the 4870 is really pulling 30FPS @ 1920x1200, I would expect the 4870x2 to be somewhere around 40-45FPS.

No idea - it's very sketchy (and from fudzilla..) but i think the 4870's might be a pleasant surprise this time round.

It will all depend on the ATI drivers. If they can release decent drivers then I can see them taking back some of the market.

TBH i've had less issues with ATI under Vista than nVidia (especially last year when nVidia's drivers were fecking terrible). Drivers aren't an 'choice' issue now IMHO.

The 4870X2 is an exciting prospect, might be enough to prise me away from my 8800GTX OC.......especially with the 'tepid' GTX260/280.......
