Re: Dual monitor question
Thats a good question. Wouldn't it be limited by the Graphics driver?
Re: Dual monitor question
indeed, this is entirely dependant on the graphics driver.
That said multiple monitors is a lot nicer if you have them all the same res.
Re: Dual monitor question
What if you had two different graphics cards, say an AIT and a Nvidia?
Bonus of that is the ability to run any GPU accelerated apps that may be released over the coming years :)
Re: Dual monitor question
I think he wants them to appear as one monitor like the surround monitor boxes available.
It's easy enough to plug in both monitors than you can have complete control of the resoloutions of both.
What make is the GFX chip?
Re: Dual monitor question
Yeah indipendant resolutions isn't a problem, been doing that for years with a couple of different laptops.
It's having one in portrate and one in landscape mode that is the problem. a 15" widescreen in portrate would sit next to my 24" perfectly, and in that configuration the vertical resolutions would match too (assuming 1200x800 on the 15")
I really just wondered if this was a limitation of windows or the graphics shipsets/drivers.
Re: Dual monitor question
Howdy Funkstar! may I ask what monitors you are using?
That's the setup I'm looking at running as well on my soon to be built system; hoping to be able harness the power of the Quad and game on the 24" and have the web and widgets etc up on the other... :)
Are you finding it not possible to have the 24" in landscape and a 15" next to it in portrait?
I'll be running a HD 4870 as my graphics card if that makes any difference?
thanks :)
Re: Dual monitor question
Everything is in My System to the left.
When I convert my laptop to a tablet and the screen rotates, the Dell 24" does the same.
I did try playing about with powerstrip or something like that, but I couldn't find anything to make it work.
If anyone has siggestions to try, I'll give it a go again when I get home next week

The last time I tried this I could not get them both to work at the same time. There were driver conflicts.

Thats interesting, thanks David.
Not going to build this straight away, if at all. Jut something i'm thinking about.
Re: Dual monitor question
I'm interested in how you get on with this.
I currently use 2 * 21" crts and was looking to move to a 24" tft with a secondary smaller tft rotated to keep parity with verticle resolution, never thought it'd be a problem, so am glad you've brought this up.
re: ultramon. Taktak, have you done this with ultramon or is it just a suggestion to try? Not used it in a few years. Isn't it quite pricey now?
DavidM, is it a faff once setup or do you just have to go to display properties on every reboot? That I can live with.

Yup, I've done this with a 24" Dell and a 20".
Portrait / landscape wont cause an issue for one simple reason - they are nothing more than a different resolution. Provided your card can provide the resolutions needed, there isn't an issue.
The OS will make no distinction between portrait and landscape - is just what we call them.
Re: Dual monitor question
hmmmm
This has got me thinking. Perhaps the Intel chipset/drivers along with the tablet screen rotate software is mixing things up.
I'll try it again when I get home, making sure drivers are up to date etc.
Thanks for the input David and Agent :)
