GPU Only Waterloop for a HD4870

Been searching around for some good-quality used parts since I want to build a nice small loop on a budget to put my 4870 under water when it arrives. I'm not interested in CPU cooling at the moment since I'm happy with my TRUE, I'll decide when to upgrade if/as the time comes for it.

Here's what I've been thinking so far:

    Danger Den Maze4 GPU waterblock
Laing DDC-1T 12V Pro Pump OR Swiftech MCP350 12v Pump
    XSPC DDC Top w/ Reservoir
    MasterKleer 1/2" ID tubing
    Feser One

Now for radiators I'm hoping to not buy one too expensive and too thick, since I still want to mount it inside my Antec P182 on one of the internal fan mounts. The TC PA120.1 would be too much I think, anyone have any experience with some of the lesser brands that aren't as wide for example?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: GPU Only Waterloop for a HD4870

I would probably go for a Swiftech MCW60 or D-Tek Fuzion GPU for the graphics block over the Maze 4 newer more refined blocks which provide better cooling.

You may as well go for 7/16" tubing over half inch it has a tighter curve and is quite a bit smaller externally while having a minimal effect on flow restriction (still use 1/2" barbs.

Swiftech Rads are well recieved but require reasonably high air flow to get the best out of them, XSPC RS120 has also been said to be good very low flow restriction but I have seen no concrete numbers on its thermal performance, but really any 120mm rad should cope with a single GPU no problem at all.

I'm using a Maze 4 on my 4870 along with some Heatsinks for the memory and VRM's. I sat a 120mm on top of the maze 4 blowing down over the heatsink. The VRM's can get quiet hot.

VRM temps with GPUID are less than 40'c and my GPU never gets above 32'c.

    Thats with a PA120.3, D5, Swiftech GTX cooling a Q9450 @ 3Ghz

Have you considered the new EK 4870 Full Cover waterblock?

Aqua Computer have a full block out for the 4870... EUR70 + shipping (around EUR8, maybe less...)

looks quite nice and will work in Crossfire as well

It should hit the UK sometime next week with several suppliers, my 4870 arrived today so I'll just have to put up with the standard air cooler until they are available.

Re: GPU Only Waterloop for a HD4870

If you want a good gpu block then the Swiftech MCW60 or the D-Tek Fuzion GPU both will out perform the Maze 5 and full cover blocks. Full cover blocks are a bit of mixed bag they add extra restriction to the loop and extra heat from the memory and voltage regs which can be happily cooled with ram sinks.

D-tek GFx2 and the new EK VGA Supreme will probably be the best core only GPU blocks.

    D-tek GFX 2
