    Question 8600M GT or GS? 8400M?

    which is better.thinking of getting a dell lappy either a 1.8c2d or a 2.0ghz with a 256mb 8600m gt... but theres a 128mb 8600m gs... surely being 128mb its not as good?
    also is the 8400m they put on new dells better than the above 2?

    Re: 8600M GT or GS? 8400M?

    Not always 8800gt/x/s > 9600gt even though 9600 > 8800...
    But yeh, get the 8600, it will cope with medium detail at low res... the 8400 wont
    256mb would be good if the res is above 1280x800, but I doubt there will be a huge difference at this res or lower unless you use AA/AF (unlikely that you would want to with this card...)

    edit: Actually, I have never heard of a 8600gs... but the usually the gt is a fair bit better than the gs... faster clocks and more pixel shaders iirc... probably about 10-15% faster...

    Re: 8600M GT or GS? 8400M?

    The 8600GT is certainly a very capable card but my 8400gs is a little trooper. Plays everything I've cared to try one way or another

    If you are shooting for the best though the 8600GT is it.

    I was at PC world earlier and noticed they are selling older Asus G1's for around £600.

    Thats a DDR3 GT ( I think) and 2.0GHz C2D. Didn't think that was too shabby actually.

    But that was nvidia being retarded. All those newer 8800 should have been made a 9000 series.

    8800gt should have been something like 9800gt
    8800gts 512 ---> 9800gts 512

    mine's been going strong for nearly a year now so I guess I'm ok
