    Which 4870 config?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, couldn't decide between this and the tech support one

Anyway, I need some help deciding which 4870 configuration I should get. I built my system around AMD and I've been waiting a long time for these cards

I play at 1920x1200 and quite frankly, my 8600gts 256mb sucks. It sucks real bad.

So here are my choices: get 2 512mb cards, 2 1gb cards (whenever they arrive), or get the 2gb 4870x2 (or 1gb if there is no 2gb model).

Which setup do you guys think will be suitable. I know all of them will be light years ahead of my current card, but which one is best? Will there really be any benifit from 1gb compared to 512mb at my res, considering the speed of GDDR5 and new architecture?

    Thanks

I would stick with the 8600gts because its a nvidia
Seriously, wait for the 4870x2 and then decide...

What games do you play? One 4870 512mb does quite well at 1920x1200 with most games.

Thats what was thinking, however I want the cards before some new games are coming out in Oct/Nov (Fallout 3, Far Cry 2 etc). I know it will probably be out by then, but there's always a chance something could happen.

Things like The Witcher, Crysis, COD4, UT3, will be getting Fallout 3, Far Cry 2 and Crysis: Warhead when they come out.

    Re: Which 4870 config?

Well you can always get a 4870 now, and then crossfire it with a 4870x2 when it comes out

    Re: Which 4870 config?

    Didn't think of that

Also, does the 4870 suffer badly from micro stuttering in crossfire? I did a google for it but nothing turned up.

Nothing mentioned on all the 4870 CrossFire tests i've seen.

As a side note, dual 4870's produce some very good results - http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=13972&page=16
