Question LCD Telly or LCD Monitor

    Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what I should purchase. Just recently got a new rig and want to upgrade from my 19" Sony (which has my 360 and PC connected to it) to a decent sized screen only dilemma is not sure what to get I want atleast full HD 1920x1080 etc res for movies and the likes but primary use would be for the real estate when doing work (3D, After Effects, Photoshop etc).

Bearing in mind I would be sitting about a 2ft away while using pc but pretty much further when watching films... what would you guys recommend?

    max budget of £550 delivered.

Been eyeing the 27" Dell 2709W but my mates reckon I should go with a LCD Telly. Saying that though this is going on a usual desk wouldnt a LCD Telly be a beast??

Some advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Re: LCD Telly or LCD Monitor

Well you would need at least a 37" TV to get 1920 x 1080 wouldn't you?

That is going to be a bloomin joke.

The 2709 is a very nice looking monitor with all the connections under the sun I'm very tempted by it.

If they ever get them in, these look quite good too

i would go for a lcd monitor like the 2709fpw. the quailty of them would be better than a big cheap lcd tv and dell have a zero dead pixel warrenty on those monitors

Re: LCD Telly or LCD Monitor

Just buy the best monitor you can for the work you are doing.

HD on a 27" screen is mostly wasted unless your nose is close to touching the screen, so compromising on the main use of the screen is pretty pointless IMO.

Re: LCD Telly or LCD Monitor

Well I was just looking for new 1920x1080 (16:9 ratio) screens I found one that was actually 21.5"

    It's not out yet though.

    It's a LCD desktop monitor.

I think it's full HD. It's the new Benq one. E2200 HDA.

I mean I'll ask some friends who know better about screens for you, cause I'm actually looking for a new one myself.

    What you guys think though?

Dell value monitors tend to be pretty awful. The worst panels, cheapily made etc..

But their higher end models like the 2709WFP, 2408WFP etc.. are simply fantastic I have a 2007WFP and it's great.

Not only do you get great S-PVA (or similar quality) panels you get multiple inputs which are really handy for me as I run my laptop, PC, consoles and DVD/freeview off the one monitor

As for the 16:9 screen, that resolution of such a small screen is going to make things a little difficult to read etc.. without increasing font size but it will give pin sharp detail.

Yeah... I remember reading on another forum page the exact same thing. That Dell has really bad monitors except for their higher end models. Well then again, not about monitors, but about Dell products in general, I've never really heard good things about them. They work, they're cheaper, but I never hear them last long or go a long time (a year or two) without ANY problems.

Re: LCD Telly or LCD Monitor

I'm actually a big fan of dell products. I always use their laptops and I will continue to use their monitors

Quality wise they are never the best but they are up there.
Customer service is great when you need to use it.
Very fairly prices, even in the UK where we tend to get ripped off.

I've not had any of my home laptops break yet and at work last year some of the 3 - 4 year old laptops were suffering overheating issues but they were fixed the next day to great satisfaction. You get the same sort of service of the Monitors too I believe

Play.com are doing some sales on TVs, there's some Toshiba and Samsung 32" full HD ones in there for £500 - £600.

Cheers for that I will have a look. I still had my heart set on that 32" 1080p Philips telly the 32PFL9603D but no where has it in stock for a reasonable price really annoying. Other option is the Sony 32" but I want blimming Ambilight lol.
