Re: 4870 trouble (black screen, crazy RPM)

Haven't tried the new drivers, will download and install now.

Currently, (Posting without the 8.7 drivers) I can play Crysis for 10 minutes or so before the error occurs. If this doesn't work I shall reformat the hard drive and start again with Vista.

Will report back tommorow with results

You have to change your motherboards boot priority to 'USB Stick' or similar, some motherboards allow you to select the boot block device by hitting F8 on boot.

Re: 4870 trouble (black screen, crazy RPM)

Downloaded the dvd version instead, burnt it and it boots up fine. I type "autonuke" and it searchs for a floppy disk, it seems to detect a floppy drive (I don't have one ??) but doesn't find a floppy and so stops. I have tried with my USB inserted to see if it would use that rather than a floppy but nothing. Do I need a floppy for it to work?

Re: 4870 trouble (black screen, crazy RPM)

Download the CD/DVD version and write it to a disk... then boot from the disk just like you do when you install windows. Then all you do is read the screen and select the option you want to use

Meh, formatted using Vista instead, re-installed vista and the card is still playing up. Ordered a new PSU as it might be a power issue, if that doesn't work I'll send the card back to be replaced.

Re: 4870 trouble (black screen, crazy RPM)

Hey Painkiller10. I've got the same problem, here is my case:

I found a ASUS 4870 BIOS(overclocked) a couple of days ago, and flashed my new Sapphire 4870 with it. It ran quite well for two days and yesterday morning, I got the same blackscreen crazy fan speed issue when loading XP. ( screen was fine before the XP logo starts to show)

So I flash my original BIOS back and the card go back to normal. I guess my card is just not good enough to do overclocking, or I need to adjust mobo's power output setting to achieve overclock.

I assume you changed the BIOS setting to higher fan speed? I think all you need is to google 4870 original bios and flash it back to your video card.
