This monitor is available at a pretty decent price at the moment. Any opinions on the technical specs? Also, what type of panel does it have and whatever it is, is it a good panel?

Pretty sure it is a S-PVA panel. The limited reviews I've seen have been very goo accept for the one thing that seems to plague the big dells.. input lag.
From what I've seen the problem is blown out of proportion though, but I'm not much a gamer these days so perhaps it is.
It's deffinatly on my list though. All the inputs you might want, a decent size and resolution and a great panel if it's anything like the 2408 which I believe it is :)
Yeah - the input lag stuff really is blown out of all proportion. I certainly haven't noticed it at all on my Dell monitor.
It uses a Samsung S-PVA panel, so image quality should be good... I might just get this over the 2408WFP, the extra 3" would be nice :)
I ordered mine direct from Dell but they're out of stock so the lead time is a couple of weeks at the moment. Still, it's on offer at 25% off RRP for a few more days, which makes it a similar price to the 24" model.
Just ordered mine from PCbuyit for £460 delivered... £21 more than Dell, but I'll have it tomorrow, sweet! :)

Received my monitor this morning (ordered at midday yesterday and delivered to my door at 1030... absolutely brilliant!) Happy to pay £20 more than with Dell to have it straight away!
First impressions... 27" is enormous... like, really fricking enormous! God knows how people fit a 30" monitor into their lives!! I have to move my head to look at each side, I think I need a bigger computer desk now!
Brightness out of the box is ridiculously retina searing, I've scaled it back to 25 and it's still rather bright for my eyes, sure I'll get used to it though!
Image quality looks good, though won't know how good until I get my Spyder3 next week and calibrate this monster :)
Touch sensitive buttons on the left of the monitor are a bit of a pain, one of mine seems to be a bit temperamental, I'll give it a chance and if it doesn't get better I'll get a swap, Dell's warranty is great!
I bet one of the first things anyone does with this monitor is turn off the annoying buzzer/beep that goes off everytime confirming you've touched a button, ahhhh, silence is golden :)
Off to try a few games now, see how the 4870 handles 1920 x 1200 :)
Oh dear! I got mine from Dell early last week but have only just had a chance to connect it up. The picture is brilliant BUT...the touch-sensitive buttons don't work. :(
Trying to get through to Dell support is proving to be a lengthy and very expensive process (0870 number and on hold for > 20 minutes!).
Has anyone else had any problems with the touch-sensitive buttons? On my 2709W the first button lights up as your hand gets near the buttons but none of them do anything when you touch them. I've tried varying amounts of pressure too. When you power the monitor up the array of buttons lights up and then the lights go out so I assume that the POST is okay.
I'm still saving up for this monitor... :(

How is it visually? Does it have input lag when gaming? Do you get the pink hue in the corner?

Well, the buttons seem to be working now. I found a thread on the Dell forums that suggested that any WiFi source near the monitor may stop the buttons working. I moved my WiFi antenna away and the buttons are working now. Now I need to cancel the RMA!
Nevertheless, the touch-sensitive buttons are very temperamental. I have found that the best way of operating them is to use your thumb: grab the back of the lower-left bezel with your four fingers and then very lightly touch the first lit button with your thumb. Just a light touch with your thumb is required. I have found that using my fingers simply doesn't work.
@sleepyhead: Visually the monitor is a huge improvement over my 19" monitor. I don't get a pink hue in the corner. I tried Flight Sim X in 1920 resolution and it looked amazing. I haven't tried any other games. Forgive my ignorance but i'm not exactly sure of what 'input lag' is. If you can explain what I should be looking for then i'll give it a go. Any other questions then just ask. I'll be trying it out with my Xbox 360 later today and intend to do a mini-review in the next week or so.

It's a shame you can really notice the input lag as a few of my fave FPS games are really quite high paced; which would make it tricky to perform rocket/insta jumps and rocket/insta wall dash at high speeds.
There is the Hazro HZ26W that looks like a good alternative to the Dell 2709W, less input lag (according to the tft central review) and if I read correctly, the S-IPS panel which is the best so far.
Hi,prob i see,everytime Dell(Samsung etc),fetch out a new model/panel,they seem to be pushing the technology ever more.Which gets you good things,but sometimes things not so good.
Then they keep bringing out revisions,if its just FW,or as to be chip change or whatever?One thing you can't do it yourself.This could be same whatever make you buy to some extent thou.They changed me my 2405 for a 2407,just a few days back.2407 is a revision A04(last revision)& reading its all OK/OKish now :) .When it was delivered,thought,its not a 2408,glad it wasn't now,because it certainly wasn't going to be a new 2408,with latest revision(supposidly mid July,first rev).Mind they could have rev'ed a older one.But happy enough :) anyway.

ps those IPS panels can be pricey by the looks.Lot of Apple monitors must be IPS(see peeps picking between Dell or more expensive Apple).
