Ive got a Leadtek FX5900 LX...Ive read that you can flash the bios on these to FX5950U bios. Has anyone managed it? Is it reliable afterwards? Had any problems? Would ppl advise doing it?

ive done it with my MSI fx5900 ultra to a fx5950 it works fine
Flash Mod
I have the Bios loaded on a floppy, ready to do, I've overclocked my Aopen FX5900 to FX5950 speeds and it holds steady, but still, I'm not sure. You go first
What are the FX5950/Ultra speeds? Just so i can try it
On 3D settings: Core of 475, Memory 900.
Bear in mind the Bios flash ups the core voltage a little, which should help with stability & temps.
Ive read the bios flash up's the mem to 475(950)...The upping of the core voltage would surely up the temps? Ive read that most ppl say the temps go down, as the card is made more efficient.
From what I've read, the 5900 is basically a downgraded 5950 and obviously with only half the memory. Again, from what I've read, the core voltage of the 5950 is higher than that of the 5900, and the higher voltage apparently relaxes the memory settings. I'm no great expert on this subject, it's a little new to me, I've overclocked many systems, but never a grafix card.
Did you read the article I linked to in an earlier post?
yes i did. Ive read a huge thread on the futuremark forums about it, This bios flash will only give you extra performance if you are going to take advantage of the extra Overclocking ability due to voltage increase. As it appears this flash relaxes timings on the mem to allow to go further. So if you clock your card at say 475/950 before the flash, this will perform better than 475/950 after the flash. As your running tighter timings on the mem. Or at least this is what i can gather from the thread on future mark.
Have a look at all the 3D Chipset Specs you could ever want.Originally Posted by rob3

Well ive managed FX5950Ultra speeds fine. Not sure if its worth flashing it now :/

rob, do it, you will get extra volts and wth your zalman you will be able to reach over 1ghz memory !! do it
