Nvidia GTX280 is it still over priced?

It has come down in price dramatically since its release scan has one for £263 or something. It is the fastest single GPU and has overclocking potential so is it now good value or still over priced compared to the 4870.

Re: Nvidia GTX280 is it still over priced?

It depends on your needs and desires.

If you have a very high resolution screen, then the GTX280 may be the better solution regardless of cost. I am continuing to see people posting issues with their 4870 cards (dead, dying, bad drivers, power consumption etc), yet have not seen a single post from a disgruntled GTX280 owner.

Maybe its because no one is buying GX280s (highly unlikely) or are not posting their woes (also highly unlikely)....who knows?

Personally, I am biding my time after ordering a gtx280 (water cooled) almost 2 weeks ago, it still isn't in stock, the order has now been cancelled and I am awaiting the die-shrunk model to release, while keeping an eye on the 4870 feedback and 4870x2 release date.

Personally, I get the feeling both companies rushed these products to market and I am a little apprehensive about them both.....AMD for the user experiences I have read and nVidia for shrinking the die so soon after releasing a brand new card.

Re: Nvidia GTX280 is it still over priced?

I think the £250 bracket is pretty reasonable for the performance you get out of it. That said, as above, you need to decide whether you actually require all the performance it's willing to give.

People took the dive a few years ago on the 8800GTX and that is still right up there with the best of them for 1920 x 1200 (on terms with the 9800GTX and HD4850 at the least). So it could be worth while taking the plunge yourself

Re: Nvidia GTX280 is it still over priced?

I'll be ready for a new card in the autumn - i reckon the 280 die-shrink will be worth a look but i'm willing to eye up the 4870X2 as well. I've always been a one-uber-card bloke but i'm coming around to crossfire given how well the ATI cards are packaged.

Re: Nvidia GTX280 is it still over priced?

Literally just got mine for £263 from Scan and im loving it! I went from a X1900XTX to a Leadtek GTX 280 and the difference is astonishing! I was set on the GTX260 when it came out, but for £260 a GTX 280 great!

Not had time to play much but heres a little show off picture.
