    Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

Is this Full HD topic only for me so difficult to understand? I plan to buy a new monitor because I gave my old one to my brother. And now I am trying to get some information about Full HD LCD monitors. I can find a lot about Full HD TV on the Internet, but Full HD LCD is different, right? So, Full HD LCD monitors have a 16:9 resolution, instead of traditional monitors which have a 16:10 resolution. But I don't know which advantages I will have with 16:9. Can anybody shed some light into the dark? That would be very nice. Thanks!

Re: Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

It's simple. Just buy a monitor with a resolution of 1920 * 1200. If you play full HD 1080p on this, you'll just have small black bars on the top and bottom of the screen where the monitor has slightly more pixels on the vertical axis.

HD TV and HD monitors are the same thing, just that TVs tend to be geared towards colours and monitors towards response time. In both cases the HD can mean 720 or 1080, though 720 tvs are more common than monitors.

Advantages of 16:9 are that it's cheaper for the manufacturer to make, and you can view widescreen movies better.

Disadvantages are that they are a bit of a pain to do anything other than watching movies on. 16:10 is a nice compromise in that you can still do widesceen without wasting too much space, yet you can also view webpages, use word, use other apps quite a bit better than with a 16:9 display.

I would say that monitors are geared towards resolution more then response time, response times for a TV need to be just as good as a monitors due to fast moving sports and film.

LCD monitors and TVs are built on the same fundamental principles but are effectively tuned very differently. If you are buying to replace a PC monitor, then buy the best monitor you can afford/justify.......How good it plays back film content should be a bonus as that's not what they are designed primarily for.

Re: Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

    if it's 16:10, it's a monitor (regardless of tv-tuning ability) - if it's 16:9, it's a tv (regardless of vga or dvi input)

if it has a resolution of AT LEAST 1920x1080, then it's "full hd" i.e. can play back a blu-ray without scaling down

Re: Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

If you want a full HD LCD, but want a 16:9 aspect ratio then take a look at Dells S2409W 24" offering:
    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=14670

Almost all full HD LCD monitors are 16:10 aspect ratio and most are 24" upwards in size, although there are a couple of exceptions.

Re: Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

Full HD monitors are always 16:9 and the highest available size currently is 24". BenQ is going to launch a 22" version this summer, that could also be an interesting alternative. trustedreviews.com argues that the BenQ E2200HDA could be the first mainstream 16:9 Full HD monitor. Let's wait and see! http://www.trustedreviews.com/displa...80P-Monitor/p1

Re: Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

22" and 1920*1200 you are very limited in choice I have found one possibility the Lenovo L220x

    Review here,

    http://techgage.com/article/lenovo_l...n_lcd_monitor/

hope that helps, if i remember correctly (was looking at it a while back) it uses a Samsung panel and you will get a sharper image because of the higher pixel density.

However, you will find a lot more choice in the 24" market.

Re: Full HD LCD monitor 16:9

I have a Hyundai w240D-PVA, it's 1920x1200, good monitor if you manage to not get any dead pixels. Does ghost though (due to it being a PVA matrix, there's a TN version that might be better). The good points about it are that you have good control over scaling, many inputs (vga, dvi, hdmi, component). Also the display is very maneuverable, it can even be rotated 90 degrees.
