    5,500 3DMark 06 points okayish?

hey Folks, since i blew my 7600gt, i got meself a budget buy with MSI NX8600GT OC edition, it is overclocked n all, has a passive cooler tho, anyways, I ran 3dMark06, I got my CPU to 2.5Ghz btw from 3.2, it is hot here these days n im scared to blow anything else

    Anyways i got 5,490 3dMark06 points on 2.5Ghz C2D e6300, 2GB ram, MSI 8600gt, is that okay?
    SM 2 score 2248, SM 3 score 2200, CPU score 2050.

btw, sometimes this 8600gt feels slower than the 7600gt, and vista's own benchmark gave 7600gt 5.6 marks, gave 8600gt 5.4 marks

PS: the card idles around 57 - 60 and loads at around 77, its passively cooled, is that okay?

    Re: 5,500 3DMark 06 points okayish?

The 8600GT is slower for somethings, it's a bit of a crippled card.

It's better for SM3.0 stuff, hence why it scores higher in synthetic benchmarks like 3dmark, but come games that need actual 'power' (textures, lighting etc.) it's not actually as good in many situations as the 7600GT.

At the end of the day benchmarks don't mean much - I get about the same score as you with my x1950xt, but I can play just about every game out there on full settings.

Yes those temps are fine, good actually.

STOP BENCHMARKING AND START PLAYING GAMES!!!!!!

Seriously, that's not a bad score for an 8600 so go play some games

So i think mine is doing fine! its 2.5 Ghz C2D and an 8600gt, TAKTAKs score is just 500 ahead with the 6400 Athlon x2 and the 8600gts..

    Re: 5,500 3DMark 06 points okayish?

Well for comparison, I get 6800 on the following system:

Opteron 146 2.79ghz (single core cpu)
    2900gt
    4 sticks of ram (2gb @ 2T)
    Win XP

My CPU scores low here. It only get 1080.

My other system is also AMD at 2.8ghz
    x1900cf edition (512mb)
    2 sticks of ram (2gb @ 1T)
    Win XP

    This one scores around 4900.

As you can see it scores lower than your system, but it can run games very well.

If you really want to benchmark, then I would suggest the following:

    Crysis
    Company of Heroes
    Devil May cry 4
    Lost Planet
    FEAR
    Cavalier-X: Biostar TP45-HP ¦ E4600@3.1ghz - Xigmatek Red Scorpion (OCZ Freeze) ¦ OCZ ReaperX 2x2gb (792mhz @ 4-4-4--12) ¦ Xigmatek NRP-MC651 ¦
    Palit 8800gt ¦ X-fi Fatal1ty Gamer ¦ Coolermaster Cavalier 3 (Silver/Windowed) ¦

    Poseidon Magma: MSI P45 Zilent ¦ E6300@3.0ghz - Coolermaster Hyper 212 (MX-2) ¦ Corsair 2x2gb (880mhz @ 5-5-5-15) ¦ Corsair HX450w ¦
    xfx 9600gt Alphadog edition (780/1950/1000) ¦ X-fi Gamer ¦ Gigabyte Poseiden ¦

    Re: 5,500 3DMark 06 points okayish?

    I got just over 8000.

    E6600, 4850.

That sound right? Does changing the resolution the Mark is run at from default affect the score?
