From the basic figures on the Crysis page, it looks to me like Nvidia have lost the plot.

Every little helps!
Yup no brainer buy a 4850
its cheaper than the 8800GT so it does have a use, its ment to be taking over for the 8800GT although it uses the exact same thigns apart from the 55nm process nvidia want to move the 8series being the best to worse than 9series, discontinue the 8 series i think so everything seems like a 9(so higher/better). The 4850 is certainly a better card BUT thats because of the price difference of ~$40 so basicly the same here of £40, so now it goes like this.... 9600GSO(8800GS) $100---> 9600GT $140----> 9800GT $160---> 9800GTX $?-----> 9800GTX+ $?---> etc. Basicly its all nines apart from gtx260/280, looks better than 9600->8800->9800GTX/8800GTS etc.
I guess they want to keep the GTX series as a premium brand.
what game uses 1 gb?
the 4850 doesnt need a decent cooler, the fan just isnt set correctly(isnt it like 15%?). The majority of nvidia cards are the same, my 8800GTS g92 runs at 29% stock which makes it run near 70C idle, i have to set it to 50% to make sure it doesnt go to 80C load. 4850>8800GTS, so it can pump out more heat.
meh, I prefer a silent cooler... the only reason why ATI runs its coolers slow is because its noisy when run faster
