    A little help please

    Hello All,

After weeks (literally) of research I have decided to buy two 20" 1600x1200 (4:3) monitors and I have narrowed it down to two: LG L2000CP or Dell 2007FP. Both are s-ips panels (the Dell is revision a04, manufactured in March 2007 and has been "confirmed" as s-ips via the service menu and has the code HN210), and both are around the same price.

So my question is - which one? Does anyone have any experience of either monitor? And if they're both s-ips, will there be much, if any, difference between the two?

    Thanks.

    Re: A little help please

No Idea about the LG but I have the widescreen version of the dell (2007wfp) and it is a peach of a screen Not always setup fantastically out of the box so you do need to fiddle a little but once you do the results are a very clear picture, fantastic colour reproduction and obviously very good viewing angles.

You also (on the WFP) get the extra inputs, s-video and composite, so you can plug other things in to use the monitor for. Mine has my old playstation and a freeview box in which works nicely PIP.

    Re: A little help please

Well, I have decided to buy two Dell 2007fp's rather than gamble with the LG's.

    Thanks for the help.

staffsMike, do you have calibrated settings for your 2007wfp that I could try for my 2007fp? I have absolutely no experience in calibrating a monitor and would appreciate the help. Cheers.

    Re: A little help please

Brightness around 90 (but it's very user dependent)
    Contrast around 50.

Set in "Multimedia Mode" apart from when I game then it is set to "gaming mode" which makes things brighter with a higher contrast I beleive, you see better anyway lol

Colours are set to default which is 100 on all of them on my screen.

It's my graphics card settings which are more important I think, since nvidia never seem to give you decent factor settings.

So mine are, for the desktop,

    Brightness: 67%
    Digital Vibrance: 39%
    Contrast: 42%
    Gamma: 9%

That of course may change from card to card, I'm not exactly sure.

Best to have a play yourself tbh.

For help with getting the brightness/contrast settings right you can find black/white colour chart images on the net, like here, and here.
