If you think you might go xfire in the future get the 4870.

    Re: graphics issue

You could get a lower priced gtx260 and overclock it to great effect. I've got a BFG gtx260 OC and it's been great so far, runs cool and quiet. I decided to go for it over the 4870 for exactly those reasons. I've got mine overclocked massively and it's still running a lot cooler than a 4870 on stock.

But if you do think you may crossfire in the future then you'll have no choice but to go with ati

    Re: graphics issue

i most likely wouldnt go xfire, but would stick to single graphic cards, but high end ones.

I guess maybe gtx 260 best option then? It just that soo many people go on about how wonderfull 4870 is and how it beats gtx260 in reveiws... this why i just wanted to check

    Re: graphics issue

The 4870 was certainly a much better card before the nvidia price drop. it had very similar performance to the gtx260 for a lor less money. but now that the price drop has brought the two in line with each other, it's not so clear cut. I bought mine before the price drop, so it cost alot more than what i would have paid a week later (hopefully can get some money back from BFG.....). still i'm more than pleased with the card, got it running at 720/1450/1200 (core/shader/memory) and i'm pretty sure at those speeds it should at least match a gtx280 and maybe even be slightly quicker! great thing is that from what i've read pretty much all the gtx260s overclock like crazy

    Re: graphics issue

It will depend on the resolution you want to play in. The 1 gig version of the 4870 'should' be faster then the 512mb version in the higher res settings. In the end it should not make a lot of difference. If you are wanting lots of AA and AF at a higher res go for the ATI. If you do not have a monitor for the high res then go for the cheaper of the two cards.
