Free graphics benchmarks?
I'm planning to play around with the clocks of my 9800GTX+ soon, so I'll need to have some numbers to compare stock and overclocked performance. I'm not really keen on paying for 3dmark Vantage, so I'm wondering are there any free options available out there?
Any other advice on measuring the performance are welcome as well. :)
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
Most games have an option to show the FPS, and for more reliable results, a lot of games have a preset demo you can run while it records the fps and gives you the average at the end.
Only newish game I can think of that has this feature is Crysis, but there's probably more.

Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
I've downloaded the new nvidia power pack, which has a few tech demos, a benchmark and a game in it. Strangely enough, almost all of those stated that I don't have the required directx version - they require at least 9.0c. Best part is that I've got dx10 which was in Vista in the first place.
I get an error saying that a certain dll file is missing - d3dx9_35.dll or d3dx10_35.dll. Does anyone know what's the problem and how to solve it?
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
The problem is you have dx10, not dx9. You need to download and install dx9.
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
So dx10 is not backwards compatible?
Added: Seems to be a problem with Unreal Engine 3 the demos and the benchie are running on. I've found it mentioned on the Epic forums. No sign of a fix, though. Re-installing dx doesn't seem to work.

No it's not. Some games have both a dx10 and a dx9 path, the rest are dx9 only and require you to have dx9 on your system (can co-exist with dx10 fine).
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
DirectX 9 is included in Vista, but the framework is constantly being updated and tweaked (as is that of DirectX 10). The August update of DirectX was just released a few days back. You can grab the full installer from here or the web-updater from here.
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
Thank you, peeps =) Will try that when I get home.

Actually I've seen several cases where it's not included. Usually it is, but it's not always.

Heh, a bit off-topic, but thanks for this; I was thinking it was time to update DX9 again. :) I finally caved and signed up for their newsletter so I'd know when future ones come out. lol

Were those few cases on Home Premium 64bit, by any chance? :D
Btw, how do I check if I've got dx9 with my Vista? dxdiag shows dx10, but I don't know any other ways of checking which versions are installed.
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
Do you run Aero Glass? ;)

Quite possibly - I never asked, it was part of game support on some other forums and every couple of weeks there's someone who fails to run a game and it ends up being a lack of dx9 on vista.

You might be able to tell by looking at the files tab in dxdiag. Otherwise there's no good way of telling because dx10 'trumps' dx9 in the report.

That can also be run on dx10 I think, without needing dx9.
Re: Free graphics benchmarks?
Tbh, I don't know if I'm running aero or not. I've heard a lot of buzz about it, never actually saw it. The windows do have this frosted glass frame around them, but that's as much as I've noticed.
