    Most appropriate single-slot graphics card?

    Hey,

What is currently the "best" single-slot graphics card? Is it the XFX 512MB 9800 GT? (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=859179)

    Thanks,

    Tim

Probably the 4850... but be warned you do need to put a better cooler on unless you like very high temps

Or let the fan on the standard cooler spin a bit faster

The HD4850 is the best, the 9800GT wil probably be the best for noise/temps.

I think I'm going to go nvidia, I've been extremely happy with my 7800GTX for the last 3-4 years so will get one of these and hopefully it will be great! I'm not a hardcore gamer so the spec difference is probably negligible to me.

    Thanks,

    Tim

    woops, sorry, didn't realise it.
Try XFX 8800GT alpha dog (either the standard or the overclocked xxx), they are very good single slot graphic cards, the xxx edition comes with a free full version of Company of Heros!!!

The card is designed to run at higher temps so it's not a problem - you don't need to put a better cooler on at all.

The 4850 is the best single slot card out there by a huge margin.

4850 is the best single slot solution available for the price. Very fast with plenty of overclocking headroom.

Re: Most appropriate single-slot graphics card?

The 9800/8800GT is a good budget gaming card, but I guess it depends what the OP means by 'best' - I'd assumed it was 'fastest'.

Lol... we can go in circles all day... I and most other people don't like high temps... or loud noise... with the stock cooler its one or the other afaik..
