    LeadTek Winfast 9800GTX+ - 3dMarks 6

    Hi guys,

I am relatively new to this forum and just returned to PC gaming after being dissapointed with the PS3.

I bought a new graphics card and used 3dMarks 6 to benchmark it but I am getting worryinly low results:. Here are my results are spec: (n.b. This has NOT yet been overclocked)

I cannot pinpoint if/where the bottleneck is or if my drivers are at fault, although I am using the latest 177.39 drivers.

Those sm2/sm3 score are definitely wrong. Not sure if there's any settings for the pcie bus speed. Might be running at x1 rather than x16 (just a thought).

I think other Hexites might have better solutions though.

When doing comparisons with other systems I guessed they would be a little wrong, the demo's only ran at like 4-5 fps. I can provide extra detail but I didn't want to bombard anyone. I am only running a 450w PSU and only have one power connection to the top of the card (the card allows 2 6 pin PCI-E power connections), would this have anything to do with it? Do you need anymore information like System details in 3DMarks?

    Thanks you in advance.

Would this make a massive difference? At the moment I have connect up 1 molex using the adapters to one of the pci-e power connectors on the card as my current PSU doesn't have any PCI-e power connectors and I have also run out of Molex's. Sorry if I sound like a complete noob, I have been away from all this for far too long.

    Re: LeadTek Winfast 9800GTX+ - 3dMarks 6

TBH i'm surprised it's working with one power connector....

i was under the impression that it would refuse to do anything if it only had one..

and are you only using 1 molex to connect the pci-e power? cos i thought it needed two...

to quote some of the places selling it:

but as for making a difference... well ATM your hitting 4-5 FPS for 3d graphics with it.... that should speak for itself.. it's basically rendering everything using the CPU not the GFX card, you need both connectors to have the full 3D graphics capabilities of the card

by the sounds of things you are going to need a new PSU....

    +1,

Depending on your budget something like these should suffice-

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=602557

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=644038

Also keep a look out on scans today only page, as they often have an FSP 700 watt psu for about £30 inc P&P.

And one more thing, if you do decide to invest in a new psu, dont buy any cheap brands such as ezcool, qtec, etc, as they often go snap, crackle and pop . Brands such as FSP, Enermax, Seasonic, Corsair, tend to be very reliable.

Thanks very much guys, you have been a massive help, funnily enough I had ordered a PSU earlier today without knowing what my original problem was. I have bought the following, my only worry now is that it is not a reputable make:

Hopefully this isnt a mistake for 50 quid??

Got the same graphics card you have, plus a q6600 cpu and 4gb or RAM, all at stock speeds. I'm getting 12147 3DMarks overall, (SM 2.0 Score 4968, SM 3.0 Score 5650, CPU Score 3282). You should probably be looking for something similar.

Thats not a reputable make and its not very good either, that wont even be able to produce 800w.

You should of gone for the makes that someone suggested on here like corsair, antec etc, dont just look at the watts, cos that doesnt really mean anything, a corsair 450w psu can do more then its listed, and whats mor eimportant is that its a quality product made by a repputable brand, and it was five quid cheaper then the one you bought.

if it were me i would either:
a: cancel it if it hasn't been shipped yet
    or
b: return it under DSR (you only pay for the shipping)

and then get either a corsair, seasonic, enermax or FSP as they are generally more reliable

Even though it does 'look' like a decent psu, its unknown make and I would really not risk it. As the above two have said, its best to go for makes such as Corsair, FSP, etc as their psu's are made of high quality components.

Judging by your system specs, any good quality 400watt psu will be more then enough for you

A 450W PSU is fine for this card, so no need to replace it, you just need to use a molex to PCI-E connector to connect up the second power slot. Once you do that you'll be fine.
