Anyone does this lately?
I've got a 8800 gts and a new 4870 sittong on the desk.
I'm hoping deinstalling the driver for the 8800 then into safemode and running driver sweeper and ccleaner will do the job really cba with a format atm. Anyone done a similar move withour reformatting and if so what did you use.
You don't need to reformat. Just uninstall drivers, reboot, run driver sweeper then swap the cards.
Thats what I thought/hoped just wanted to be sure. Last time I switched was back on Win 98 and I had to do an OS reinstall.
Unless the NVIDIA drivers are completely broken, then you'll not need to run driver cleaner. It's one of those things that get continually mentioned without having any need for a good couple of generations at least. I've never used it.
Uninstall NVIDIA drivers | shut down | replace cards | power up | install latest Catalyst drivers | restart | install HDMI audio drivers | restart | (install AVIVO if you choose | restart). Sorted.
A lot of people really over exaggerate the need to remove older drivers. There is a lot of scaremongering on the subject (a very small percentage of which is justified).
The fact your moving from nvidia to ati means the chances are you do not even need to un-install anything. The drivers shouldn't clash at all.
I shall report back also dont think I'll install hdmi audio as I wont be using the dvi to hdmi interface

did driver sweeper and ccleaner in safemode after removing 8800gts found some old nvidia entries i registry and cc removed them :)
I (personally) would always clean the system when switching brands - yes it might not be needed but it usually does no harm either. I periodically clean when upgrading drivers too.

I think he meant uninstall, but even so... But I've never had a problem overinstalling NVidia drivers over an old version, even with Beta drivers.
I have found problems switching between the two in the past (6800GT to X1950XT), so not dead recent, but not a million years ago either. Just uninstalling wasn't enough.
Only recently would I not clean between updates, as ATI put in a self cleaner quite recently.
Just keep it simply. All you need to do is uninstall Nvidia Drivers and apply the ATi driver.
No need to Reformat, but i would suggest that you remove any old driver as i in the past have had drivers clash.
id uninstall the nvidia drivers, reboot and then run driver cleaner, reboot and then istll the ati drivers.
ive moved from ati to nvidia back to ati again

Personally, I always completely remove and clean my graphics and PhysX drivers when updating; better safe than sorry, and it only takes me an extra five minutes or so.
