    Swap an 8800GTX for a 3870X2 ?

Got the chance to swap (with a tiny, token cash payment on top) my 8800GTX for a 3870X2......what do you think ?

I can't really justify grabbing a 4870X2 right now, so outright 'upgrade' is not an option, but I do prefer the IQ on ATI cards in general and tend to have a lot of uses for the AVIVO conversion utility (one of the few things to do a good job with MCE .dvr-ms files !!!!).......

So, what do people think ?

It's an upgrade in most circumstances so not a terrible move to make. Probably runs a bit hotter and uses more power though.

not worth it, might as well save your pennies for a 4870x2. I doubt there would be any noticeable difference if you upgraded tbh

    ooh, conflicting opinions.....

I kinda figured it was not much of a step in many ways, but does tick some useful boxes and won't be a downgrade in any way ? I only have Oblivion and Stalker installed anyway.....

I'd stick with what you've got if your happy with it. Why would someone want to swap a more powerful card for a less powerful card? maybe it has a few problems.

    Re: Swap an 8800GTX for a 3870X2 ?

    He has a point.

If you're happy with what you've got, and it WORKS, I wouldn't be so happy about swapping to a more powerful card that someone is willing to trade off.

If someone was offering to swap a 4870X2 for my HD3650 I'd be worried about the standard of the 4870.

imo i would stick to what you got...however if you want an upgrade then a 4870x2 would see more noticeable difference and therefore more worth the upgrade

    Re: Swap an 8800GTX for a 3870X2 ?

+1 to keeping what you got the 8800gtx is still an extremely capable card, the extra power demands from the 3870x2 + heat prob wont be worth it. hold out
