19" WS TFT, How many still use one?

How many of you still use a 19" Widescreen TFT? I am asking because i was thinking of getting one. My budget is quite low and i have seen the Dell UltraSharp 1908WFP 19-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor for £150 and i have tried a 20" TFT but wasn't impressed with it much. Looked huge on my humble table! Seen the 19" in action and thats looks fine.

    Anyone?

I use a 15.4" laptop which has a display with a resolution of 1680x1050, and I honestly couldn't go back to anything smaller and feel comfortable. 1440x900 works, but you are forever scrolling vertically, and I'd honestly say going up to a 20" for the increased resolution would be my choice.

It's a shame they don't make 15.4" Desktop monitors with the same resolution

You can get a decent 22 inch monitor for £150 IIRC.

Re: 19" WS TFT, How many still use one?

I have a 19" monitor and think its a good size for browsing and working, I'll be getting a bigger screen when I upgrade my PC for gaming purposes, the only real problem I had with a 19" monitor was having alot of windows open at the same time in Vista taken up too much screen space, but now I use Directory Opus so thats sorted.

You only really need a bigger monitor if you watch alot of movies on your PC or play games / image editing ect, the bigger the screen size the more money it costs for a high quality screen aswell, if your happy with the screen size on a 19" you should go for it.

Re: 19" WS TFT, How many still use one?

Well the 2009WFP is a TN which is a shame as ultrasharps will usually be a better panel, that said It's probably going to be a good monitor, better than the value models.

The Dell UltraSharp 1908WFP is a better rated monitor as far as colour and viewing angle is concerned, I have a Samsung monitor and will be buying another when I upgrade.

Samsung Monitors do look nice with the Glossy Black design, my screen only has a 700:1 contrast ratio and the picture is impressive so this 1 with a Dynamic Contrast of 8000:1 should look really good, Samsung Monitors are really bright though so I downloaded some calibration software to get the colours right.

Re: 19" WS TFT, How many still use one?

dell's are far too expensive IMHO... they're only good when my grant money is paying for it.. and when I want to fleece off the university..

At home, TN 22'' (cheap ones go for under 130ish) are fine by all means.. unless you have specific reasons to not want a TN panel, which in this case getting better panels from ppl other than dell makes so much more sense..

we have those 24'' NEC-made panels to do molecular imaging and they're far far much superior than the ultrasharp 30'' my boss uses..
    Me want Ultrabook

Re: 19" WS TFT, How many still use one?

WideScreen! Unless one predominatly watches movies one's PC, I'd prefer more vertical resolution - less scrolling, less wastage of screen space on the sides. At 1400x900 the text could be too tiny for your liking. Perhaps a rotating screen is what you are looking for, you could get a full A4 page on it sideways. Good luck.
