If you have a good quality PSU then yes (must have solid +12v rails). What PSU do you have?
Cavalier-X: Biostar TP45-HP ¦ E4600@3.1ghz - Xigmatek Red Scorpion (OCZ Freeze) ¦ OCZ ReaperX 2x2gb (792mhz @ 4-4-4--12) ¦ Xigmatek NRP-MC651 ¦
Palit 8800gt ¦ X-fi Fatal1ty Gamer ¦ Coolermaster Cavalier 3 (Silver/Windowed) ¦
Poseidon Magma: MSI P45 Zilent ¦ E6300@3.0ghz - Coolermaster Hyper 212 (MX-2) ¦ Corsair 2x2gb (880mhz @ 5-5-5-15) ¦ Corsair HX450w ¦
xfx 9600gt Alphadog edition (780/1950/1000) ¦ X-fi Gamer ¦ Gigabyte Poseiden ¦
nah it aint good quilty its one of this psu's tht comes standard with cases however it does have a +12v rail)
You need to buy a better PSU, there's a Corsair 450w for £47 or from time to time Scan has the FSP 700w for around £30 (cheapest has been £27)
(also all PSUs have +12v rail but need one that should be 30v or more and minimal to no ripple)

ok thanks for ur help i myt buy tht 700wat psu on scan
just make sure you understand that we are only recommending that 700W FSP power supply because it is known to be well made and reliable, and for £30 it is a bargain (so make sure you check todayonly)
So don't go thinking oh this other PSU has 750/800W it means it's much better.
With power supplies it all comes down to the quality of the components and the manufacturers guarantee - not all are made equal, think of a PSU as a heart - without a decent one you will cripple or destroy the rest of your PC.

I agree, its not necessarily the wattage, more the build quality/ quality of electrical components. Your current supply could run it fine but may fail at random and could take your motherboard etc with it... past experience![]()
Hi,
I've got a 4850 running with a Corsair VX450 PSU and it works fine.
thanks guys i bought a sapphire hd4850 and so far it works perfectly with my "generic, non branded" psu...i even oerclocked it![]()
On a related note, does anyone know if that 700w on scan would be good for a 4850 crossfire rig?
I been reading up on it and I notice it has 4 x 12v @ 15amps, so am assuming it would be great for it?
