    HD4850 +450watt psu

Will an hd4850 work with a 450 psu even when it is overclocked?

If you have a good quality PSU then yes (must have solid +12v rails). What PSU do you have?

    Re: HD4850 +450watt psu

You need to buy a better PSU, there's a Corsair 450w for £47 or from time to time Scan has the FSP 700w for around £30 (cheapest has been £27)

(also all PSUs have +12v rail but need one that should be 30v or more and minimal to no ripple)

He means 30A - 30V would just be crazy! You'd kill your whole PC

Definitely look to upgrade your PSU, if you're on a budget go for the FSP.

just make sure you understand that we are only recommending that 700W FSP power supply because it is known to be well made and reliable, and for £30 it is a bargain (so make sure you check todayonly)

So don't go thinking oh this other PSU has 750/800W it means it's much better.

With power supplies it all comes down to the quality of the components and the manufacturers guarantee - not all are made equal, think of a PSU as a heart - without a decent one you will cripple or destroy the rest of your PC.

    Re: HD4850 +450watt psu

I agree, its not necessarily the wattage, more the build quality/ quality of electrical components. Your current supply could run it fine but may fail at random and could take your motherboard etc with it... past experience

    Hi,

I've got a 4850 running with a Corsair VX450 PSU and it works fine.

    Re: HD4850 +450watt psu

On a related note, does anyone know if that 700w on scan would be good for a 4850 crossfire rig?

I been reading up on it and I notice it has 4 x 12v @ 15amps, so am assuming it would be great for it?
