Ok, my pc went pop, so a very good excuse for a full on upgrade =)
Decided on the maximus II formula (i think =S) and an e8600, but, which gfx card, the gtx280 for £240 or the 9800GX2 for £209?
I'll be putting the winner under water, and, the waterblock for the fx2 is more than the 280's, so both will end up costing roughly the same price, most people's reactions are go for the new tech 280, and i must admit, i am tempted...
What do you guys (and girls) think?
I'd take the 280. The GX2 does occassionally out perform the 280 I think but it's never going to be a dead cert. You will get consistant performance from the 280 :)

Yes go for the 280.
If you planning on using a GX2 at 1920x1200 with AA you can run out of memory which can causes stuttering. Great card when SLI profiles work and you don't run out of memory.
Other option to consider is the 4870. Loves AA and not far away from the 280 and alot cheaper.
