    BenQ all-in-one monitor

BenQ will launch its Full HD 16:9 E-series soon. No information available yet for the UK market, but yesterday more details were made public in Germany: market launch will be beginning of October, prices for their all-in-one monitors are 189 EUR for the 22" model and 289 EUR for the 24" model.

The products will be one of the first widescreen monitors on the market and can be used as all-in-one monitors for PC use, movie watching, blu-ray dvd compatibility and playing games (PC games and game consoles).

There are plenty of monitors that do all that already....and have done for a couple of years.

Just because a monitor is 16:10 ratio, does not make it incompatible with movies.

Pretty sure all my Dell 24" monitors have had that capability for years.

Sounds like marketing hype to me.

sure thing, it doesn't make it incompatible for movies. But I think it's really cool to have a display without the black bars when you have a blu-ray dvd. Actually I know a few guys who insist to buy a 16:9 Full HD monitor for their blu-ray. Well, everybody's own decision, I guess.

    Re: BenQ all-in-one monitor

Okay and how many films are actually released in 16:9? I have a shelf full of DVDs with about 5 or 6 different aspect ratios, my personal preferance is higher resolution = better so I think I would stic to 16:10 and not worry about black bars after all who buys a monitor just to watch movies? That's what TV's are for!

    Re: BenQ all-in-one monitor

Experts expect that in 2010 90% of all laptops and 70% of all monitors will be 16:9. The reason: lower production costs. The panel producers can cut either 15 15,4"-Panels in the 16:10 format or 18 15,6" displays in the 16:9 format.
So why not jump on this trend already and get a 16:9 Full HD? We won't we able to change the trend anyway. And: lower production costs = lower market price (hopefully). But when I look at the prices for the BenQ mentioned at the beginning of this thread I think this are fair prices.

And now more information available for the E2200HDA: shipping date sometime in October, the pictures here are very nice, I like the design!

    Re: BenQ all-in-one monitor

Personally I much prefer the standard monitor 16:10 aspect ratio and have no problems with black bars and generally prefer monitors which provide 1:1 pixel matching anyway.
This whole issue is simply being driven as a cost saving measure by the manufacturers and they are most unlikely to pass all those savings onto their customers given their current profitability (or lack of it).
If all you do is mostly watch dvds or play games then perhaps ok.
However if like the majority of users with a monitor you use it for pc applications and web browsing and then perhaps watching the occasional film then the 'lost pixels' do affect usability in my view.

    Re: BenQ all-in-one monitor

If you have a 24" monitor now at 1920*1200 then yes moving to 1920*1080 may effect usability but for the 22" which in almost all cases are 1680*1050 then you are actually getting 30 pixels more but I tend to agree 16:10 is a much more useful resolution ratio for general working. If the were more 1920*1200 22" monitors available it would be good.

    Re: BenQ all-in-one monitor

If the stated prices (~£150 for the 22") are correct, these should sell well. I think most people would prefer the extra few pixels of 1920x1200 but there's no denying these are in the price range of 1680x1050 monitors. If, for the same price as a midrange 16:10 22", you can get more pixels in both dimentions, decent specs, a decent design and a HDMI port thrown in who's going to say no?
