    ATI HD4850 cooler

Has anyone used a akaska vortexx neo or a Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 or even a Zalman VF1000-LED

would like to lower my stock temps so that i can push the clock speeds up

would like to know if anyone has used one and how much the drop temps by ? in normall use rather than reviews used in websites.

got the vortexx neo, idle at 38, maxes out at 50 in a warm room... you will run out of voltage before your temps start limiting overclocking, unless of course your hardware voltmodding then i cant help you

its damn good though, then again the s1 is meant to be as well.. spoiled for choice

One word of warning with the Vortexx Neo- it is reasonably noisy at the fan speed is fixed. You will need a fan controller to change the speed to a lower one when you are not gaming.

    Re: ATI HD4850 cooler

Hi,this might work?,its 12v(ain't checked GFX card Fans out thou,12v,black yellow, like case fans?).
Cheap could come in useful for other things anyway.Bought a few, ain't tried one,but look reasonably well made.
If your into modding, you can take apart,& make appropriate hole in case side etc.Just for Knob
You might get lower rev's with a PWM option(spare connector on mobo?etc, fan as correct wires etc),above can have limitation with fan start up voltage. Can't remember prob get at least half full speed thou(says 5v to11.7v on it)?O just read,it says 50% to 100% on package

What the previous poster suggested would do the trick as the three pin fan header could fit directly into it. You then connector the fan controller to a spare fan header on the motherboard or use a molex adaptor.

Something like Arctic Cooling MX2 or Zalman ZM-STG1 would be better than the stock stuff they supply. It does not look like Akasa Pro-Grade but some generic white goop.

    Arctic Cooling Accelero S1
    Arctic Cooling MX2
    120mm fan
    2 cable ties

this will cost about £30 for all that but well worth it

    +1

Absolutely. That cooler is by far the best of any mentioned in this thread for the 4850. I'd use 4 cable ties though, prefer having the fan fixed at all 4 corners.

i'm assuming you mean tie the fan to the cooler ?

I've just looked they do a Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo VGA Cooler with fans on already

also going on A/C website the fans can plug into the card allowing control via the vga software

I wish HIS would sell their IceQ4 coolers separately

Sorry, that should probably have been made clearer. Yes, I did mean tie it to the cooler. An example photo can be found here in the SPCR article about the Accelero S1 cooler.

The only real downside of this is that it makes the cooler very tall, arctic cooling do sell a 'turbo module' which is 2 low profile fans that clip to the fins of the cooler. These are also good and will keep the total height a little bit lower. Performance wise though you can't beat having 120mm fans on that cooler.

    Mnay thanks for your replies

I have decided to go with the arctic cooler after reading some terrific reviews to

i have ordered the turbo module (tis only a fiver) to see how it fares, i have a spare fan anyway if i need to use it

Just found out that scan is out of stock but expecting some more in the day after today

    so i'm very happy ATM

Oh, that would be so nice! Currently running with a Zalman 900, but still seems to get very hot.........doesn't the HIS run at a lower power though? Have they optimised the bios in some way to keep the heat down?

The HR-03 R600 is an amazing GPU cooler which also fits on the HD4850, I'd look into it if I were you.
